Submitting recordings as a non-music major?

I was at an information session for Middlebury today, and the admissions officer mentioned that it isn't a bad idea to submit a sample of your musical talent, even if you aren't going to major in music. Has anyone else heard of or done this? I play the flute and the piano quite well and I sing so I am interested in this opportunity.

I am doing the same thing for theatre, and I was at one time considering doing it for piano. Generally, schools will accept supplements from non-majors if they don’t have a music school (no music BFA offered, no conservatory, etc). Small schools like Midd are more likely to accept them than large universities - I shot a quick email to my state representative at each of the colleges I was applying to so that I could double-check. It’s also a good opportunity to introduce yourself and such. Good luck!

Oh, and as usual, only submit one if

 1. You are exceptional
 2. You’ve dedicated a lot of your time to it and you plan on continuing it through college

(Apologies for double-posting… I have issues with editing on mobile sometimes)

My D submitted one but not sure how much that helped her.
