Success coaching program?

So I just received an email from FSU's Division of Undergraduate Studies stating:
"I am delighted to welcome you to our Advising First Success Coaching program, an exciting initiative designed to help you excel at the Florida State University. You are one of the fortunate incoming Freshmen selected to receive this higher level of interaction with a success coach in addition to your regular academic advising sessions".
It states that I have to meet my success coach in one of the sessions during the first week of school, and that I'll have to meet him/her every other week for the whole year.

What is this?

Seems like you were “pre-selected” out of the incoming freshmen class. I think you should check it out on their website [The Florida State University | Advising First](http://advisingfirst.fsu.edu/SuccessCoaching/)
Congratulation!

I will tell you that advising at a big state U, especially for freshman and students not officially into their major, is the weakest link. Especially with budget cuts. In many departments, you do not have a faculty adviser, you have someone hired to so all the department advising. The person is often a GA, or a recent grad with a Masters. It may or may not be in the field. It may be a Masters in Student Affairs or something. They know about how to advise, but may not know about the department, the nuances of classes, etc.

I would take advantage of any and all extra advising opportunities. Many SMART and talented kids loose their way during the first two years. This is a new program and a big plus. And this likely will result in a better experience for students and a better 4 year grad rate. It also sounds like this program will help students stay connected with FSU outside the classroom. It is starting out with 20% of the students, and their success will be compared with those students who are not part of the program. You are in the lucky 20%. My guess is that, if successful, this will eventually include all students who are not part of the CARE program.

hey even I got the same e-mail when I checked yesterday. I think it is worth checking out. We can attend one of the meetings and decide if we wanna continue on with it or not. Plus on what I read in the e-mail, I think it is advising and coaching on extra-activities rather than just academics. They might want to find out what you are good at and go with it so we can have a more better involvement at FSU.I will go to the meeting and take the opportunity. :)

I was just at FSU for summer c, and i also have a success coach. It’s a pretty cool program. The success coach is basically someone you can go to with any questions you have about anything and they’re always willing to help. They even have great connections with finding jobs on campus for you. Which is how i got my job for the fall =). And if you really don’t have a question about anything they’re also just people you can go to that can help you stay on the right track that you want to pursue. I think its a great program to be honest.

Apparently, I was selected, too!
Fortunately, my coach called me earlier today to check if I received any notification. I got the letter mail this morning from my dad, and that made me happy for a bit. From talking to my coach, I found out that I was using and checking the wrong email the whole time - I was checking through webmail, not outlook. Found out I missed more than 20 emails since I activated the account, and an online alcohol test must be done soon - but life’s still good, because I gained a new coach/friend ^^

Success coaching sounds great. I am excited now to meet mine.
and @shawn189 lucky you!! :)
