I'm honestly pretty angry at having not been accepted. Alot of people at my school this year did not get in.

1920 SAT I / 660, 650 SAT 2
IB Diploma Candidate
2 Leadership positions in sports
4.45 W/ 3.71 UW / 3.91 UC
Low Income

Should I honestly consider an appeal? The information on the website strongly suggests that I don't and I don't know whether anyone has ever been successful. The information I plan to submit is my last semesters grades (4.6 W GPA). UCSD was my number 2 choice and if I hadn't gotten accepted here, I wonder about my shot at Berkeley. If none of this works out I plan to accept my offer at Irvine.

I’ve only heard of one acceptance off of an appeal and that was for a friend who was diagnosed with cancer during high school and didnt mention it on her UC application.

So if you have something as dramatic as that, I would go for it… otherwise, they wont really do anything.

You have to keep in mind that the applicant pool this year was ridiculous and that while you have good numbers, there are tens of thousands out there with the same numbers as you that possibly had something extra.

Abraham1123: How do you know they gave you “low income” points.
Did they average what you put down on the UC app for 2008 and 2009 and decide?

I’ve heard a UC appeal works only if they made a mistake evaluating what was already on the app. You can’t bring in new data points, except the extreme hardship situations.

Your GPA/SAT are a little above average but nothing that will “guarantee” you in UCSD. A lot of my friends had 2100s with 3.8 UW and still got denied. Nonetheless, you should try to appeal. It will only take a few hours of your time, and you can use the same appeal for Cal too if you get rejected. There’s nothing to lose.

I’ve heard quite a number of people getting into UCSD via appeal but the numbers are MUCH MUCH lower for Cal

Abraham1123, my SAT I is 200 points higher than yours, and both of my SAT II’s are near 800. (780 Chem, 790 Math II, 800 Chinese) My weighted GPA is 4.4, UC GPA is 4.1, I still got denied, should I call them? Can I just call them and ask for how many points I got and try to figure out if there is an error in it?

^
Yes, they’ll tell you what points you got when you call.

If you got perfect grades, scores and rigorous classes (a-g > 40)
your max points are 4500 + 3200 + 500 = 8200 then you’re in
because you’re over the 7744 cut off. If you lost 500 or more points combined in those categories you’re out unless you can make it up over the hurdle in other review categories like “low income”, “community service”, “leadership”, “hardships overcome”, “great talent”, “politically correct word for affirmative action” etc.

The points are not all or none. They can award as many or as few as they want. If you forget to put something on your application it is student error and is not considered.
