Successful Transfer Student Willing to Answer Questions

Greetings! I transferred into BC last year, and am willing to answer any questions prospective transfers may have. Good luck this year!

Hi! I think I really want to transfer, and I have a ton of concerns/questions

was it hard to find new friends and transition?
do you regret leaving?
How hard was it to get in? (I’m actually considering BC too!)

Hi there!

1.The first few weeks were definitely a little lonely. I’m shy, so i didn’t make friends right off the bat. Everyone here is pretty friendly though , so i eventually found a nice group of friends to hang out with.

While this may sound silly, the hardest thing about my transition was the meal plan. My previous school had a buffet-style meal plan, while BC has a pay-as-you go meal plan. As an athlete, I felt the amount of food offered was not enough. You do get used to it though, especially if you don’t really work out.

Personally, i have no regrets leaving my last school. It was not very challenging academically, and the quality of the students there left something to be desired . I made a good deal of friends there, but i’m close enough that i can still visit them.

Only 75 students out of 2000+ applicants were accepted to the university last year. If you are applying to CSOM, it is a little more competitive(i don’t know the exact numbers)

Somewhat doubtful on both these points. I believe the overall transfer rate was 18% according to College Board. Also, according to numerous posters on the BC, CSOM won’t be taking any transfers this year.

RE: Transfer acceptance rate.

See the BC Factbook on the BC website. Page 34 has a table stating in the fall of 2012 it received 2019 transfer applications, and only 220 were accepted - for an 11% acceptance rate.

The letter I received said 75 out of 2000+. While the wording of the letter suggests that perhaps this is the number of students that accepted their offers, it was the first notification of my acceptance, and I had not committed to BC before then. I assume the same is true for other transfers. I just assumed that this was the acceptance rate.

The factbook does indeed state that 220 students were admitted, and that 90 students accepted offers. Perhaps they just guessed how many students would be coming. I don’t know what happened there, but either way it is pretty competitive.

Sorry for any confusion.

*Guessed in the letter, not the factbook

What comes to mind is when acceptance letters for freshman applicants say, “We had X applicants for Y spots.” It makes them sound more selective because it doesn’t mention yield. Making this kind of statement for transfer admissions is less straightforward.

Hi there! I am really considering transferring from my current school and BC was one of my top choices in high school, but I got waitlisted.

Do you live on campus and if so did that make it easier to make friends? I have this fear that I’m going to transfer somewhere and everyone is already going to have their friend group established and be all cliquey. Also was it hard to adjust academically coming from a less academic school? Lastly, how is the party scene at BC being a transfer student?

Thanks!

hi let’s make peace,
Can i ask what gpa and test scoring like act do you got.
I am currently a freshman in University of San Francisco, and for fall 2013 in USF I got a G.P.A of 3.68 unweighted, 16 credits, toefl 102, act composite 26, do you think I have the chances to get accepted in Caroll School of Management? please reply.

Hey, I am transfer applicant for this fall. It’s great that you created this thread to future applicant. Can you give me an insight on your stats please?

Jeeves, the idea that CSOM won’t be accepting transfers is true with respect to internal transfers. The school does accept external transfers, though as has been noted in this thread, it’s competitive.
