I sucked in high school, really sucked. I skipped a lot of classes and had a finial GPA for 1.6 or so. I scored in the top my class on all state test though. Went to community college(Northern Virginia Community College) and have killed it. I have a 4.0 and my SAT was 2100. I really want to go to either Berkeley, Northwestern, UCLA, UPenn, and for a super long shot Columbia. My question is do I stand any real chance? A lot of them ask to see high school transcripts as part of the transfer application process. This is why I am concerned. With my absolute sucking in high school is there any shot of getting in? If worst comes to worst I am guaranteed admission to UVA and that is where I will go. Am I wasting my time applying to these schools?

Considering how well you redeemed yourself, I don’t think that you’re necessarily wasting your time. If you have any sort of justifying context to put your high school performance in it will probably help.

Yes, its possible. You have redeemed yourself, which actually helps your case. Even if you don’t have a reason to justify your high school performance. The simple fact you have matured speaks volumes.

From what I know, Berkeley won’t care too much about the SATs it’s your GPA they’ll be considering (good for you). You’re definitely a competitive applicant for UCB. Northwestern, Upenn and Columbia are all top 15 schools, if not top 10. Your 4.0 and 2100 will get your application considered but your Extracurriculars and essays will get you accepted. Almost all transfer applications for the top 15 schools will comprise of 4.0 GPA’s. You’ll need to stand out in that crowd. What are your EC’s looking like?
