Where does he/she ever imply that? Maybe those kids at his school really are all fluent.

And if a native has the option of taking his/her AP language or another equally rigorous class, then the person is just lazy if the former is picked.

He is making general statements about Asians, not just the ones in his own school - so yes, he/she did imply that every Asian speaks a form of their native language (which isn’t untrue, since there are quite a few 1st generation Asians who are deep rooted into their culture, it just cannot be stated as a fact for everyone - such as my case or that of 2nd generation Asians.)

I sorry dude - I think I am thinking of the old Pokemon days (the Kanto region XD). I apologize.

Honestly, these “it sucks to be asian in high school/college” threads. Stop having this “woe is me attitude” and be proud of your heritage. There are worse situations to be in than being asian in high school. You don’t see any “it sucks to be poor in high school” threads or “it sucks to be pregnant in high school” threads. Asians should be happy that they send massive amounts of students to colleges in spite of their relatively small numbers. Be happy because remember, the grass is always greener on the other side. Compared to under-represented groups, Asians in general have it a lot better. I’m not overlooking Asian discrimination. It is bad when an Asian with a 3.6 GPA and a 2050 SAT at a top high school can’t get into a prestigious university when an under-represented minority with the same stats can get into Stanford, USC, or Princeton. I know its not fair but worse things could happen.

I’m not the only asian girl in my small town school and that’s unique and everyone pretty much knows me.

I can understand how most asian parents are and I personally don’t agree with the extreme pressure they place on their kids. It’s unhealthy. A little bit of pressure is necessary but parents have to know when to let their kids go.
My parents were like that in Middle school, then I went through a series of personal experiences that completely reversed who I was. I stood up to my parents when I wanted to change my path and take the reins and they were completely shocked. At first they were angry, but luckily I have a pretty laid-back “americanized” dad who finally understood that they needed to let me learn from my own mistakes and stuff.

They still guide me, but they let me make the final decisions.

As for the college apps, yeah I heard about that. But I guess it’s because I’m different from the average chinese family that helped me get into Brown even with a very low test score.

Being Asian only sucks if you’re stupid. Then again, simply being Asian in and of itself seems to make it relatively more probable that you are intelligent in the first place, so maybe it’s a worthwhile trade-off.

Lame…have some respect for yourself. How do you expect other people to respect you, if you dont. I can’t stand people like this. Highschool didnt suck because you were asian, it did because you sat around feeling bad about yourself. Change the way you look at yourself or youll be like this the rest of your life. (btw i am asian, im pretty sure ive experience everything you have.)
