Since school has started this year within the last few weeks I have suddenly begun to be stereotyped about ten times more than I was last year. I'm now considered one of the smartest kids in my grade. Everyone seems to think I put hours into my work (and maybe I am a whole lot harder working than they are. I am on CC,) but it seems to have come out of no where.

Last year this happened a little bit, but not as much. I know it's these students way of showing respect, but it's kind of odd, and almost to the point of embarrassing. I'm fine with rumors and whatnot, but when my name is said on the top of someone's lungs in the middle of class to the point I'm pointed out to everyone, it gets awkward.

Has anyone ever had this happen. I've been in this district for a year and a half now, and I'm beginning to get this "she's so smart" recognition? Yet again, has anyone had this happen to them before?

Yeah, it can happen occasionally, but I tend not to bother with the people that would do this, so it usually isn't much of a problem.

Annoying part is getting compared to others, lol, quite embarrassing actually, especially when the person you're being compared to probably knows a helluva lot more about the subject than you (ie the teacher).

LOL I'm basically an EXACT copy of the OP. I was just as smart as I was last year but apparently the fact that I am now officially ranked 1 means that everyone has to make a comment about how smart I am.

Most high schoolers (including me) are very easily amused. And you probably are very smart, relative to your peers. After a while, people get over it.

Agreed...just today, somebody said I "wasn't the type to watch Gossip Girl"...and I responded, "That's a little bit stereotypical; just because I get good grades, I don't watch TV? I actually watch a lot of crap reality shows..."

if you really feel offended by a comment, say something, like I did.
other people are just trying to be nice

Well it's done in a positive way so get used to it. Remember to keep your head on straight and see things from a perspective. There are millions of high schoolers in the nation so many of them are brilliant.

I get that kind of treatment in a way. I go to a generally underachieving school so my "average for CC" type of achievements seem like overachieving. Don't let it get to you. Be nice and natural, and people will think that's that.

I don't consider myself smart but I too, at my school, am above most of my peers...it's just that the real "average" standards seem to be fairly low in most cases unless you go to a really competitive school or something. Not that my school is bad, it's above average, but still as a whole it isn't anything impressive.

But I don't get it that much; anyone who actually knows me knows I'm not smart and I hang out/play all day/do random stuff all day and that I'm not the type of person to care about grades/academics/etc.
