I got accepted to both Suffuelf Academy and Williston Northampton School, I love both of them and they are both my first choice. But when it comes to enrolling, I really don’t know which one to go to. I’m looking for schools that fit me, but not like the best high schools in the US, heres something about myself.
- straight Ace in school
-best in mathematics
-love theater
-love sports and have achievements in swimming, track and field and basketball
Pls help
Don’t know much about either, but I do know that Suffield’s swimming is far superior to Williston’s… I don’t know how important that is to you though.
You’ll go to revisit days at both, right? You’ll definitely get a much better sense for the feel of each place than you did on your original student tour and interview. Make sure you talk to coaches and see any practices you can (if the right season) and go to a play rehearsal. Really spending a day going to classes, eating with students, and going to sports/ theater will help you decide.
@Daykidmom I’m not sure if I’ll go to the revisit day…
I think Williston is a really, really good school. The theater program is amazing - I know the “Director of Theater” and she’s very skilled and great. I don’t really know much about Suffield, however, so I can’t make a comparison.
It seems that suffield doesn’t take arts as important, there isn’t an arts column in their school web page @ilovewaterpolo
I’m not sure, but Williston has a good arts department (especially theater). Would you be a day student or boarder, @doriswong741?
The play practices are happening late at night right now for the spring play at Williston, As You Like It, so you might need special permission to sit in on a rehearsal. Don’t assume you’ll be able to go unless you call them.
@ilovewaterpolo I’m gonna be a boarder
Suffield indeed is serious about the arts! My kid applied there two years ago, and had a lengthy conversation with the head of the music department and with some of the theater kids there.
Since your kid goes to Suffield, can u please tell me more about the school? Like the school life, dorms and stuff? Anything about the school. Thank you @cameo43
I would read nothing into that; it’s not like the arts faculty are doubling as the school’s webmaster.
Is Suffield the one next to Loomis?
It is the one I was thinking of, not right next to each other but quite close.
And cameo never said that his/her child attended Suffield, just that s/he applied there.
Doriswong741: We visited Suffield (and Williston) during the application process, but she attends another school. Both are excellent schools. I do know that if my daughter were choosing between them, she would choose Williston because of its proximity to Northampton and the connections that the school has with the five colleges in that area… The colleges provide some great opportunities for Williston upperclassmen. Have you been in touch with the admissions office? They would gladly refer you to a list of current students there who would be happy to answer your questions. Congratulations and best wishes to you!
Williston is a great school. But my only concern is it’s academics, it’s not as great as Suffield.
i am curious – why do you hold that opinion?
