Hi aal,

We will be attending an accepted student day at CWR. Any suggestions for hotels?

Check out the Glidden House Inn and the Courtyard Cleveland University Circle. Both are practically on campus and have received very positive reviews.

We are staying at the Glidden. Not terribly expensive (we are from NYC area, though) and location can’t be beat.

We’ve stayed at the Intercontinental Suites and it was fine, but I’d look at the new Marriott in Uptown.

Hi all,
Thanks for your suggestions. I made a reservation at the Courtyard Cleveland University Circle (170/night). Many hotels were full. The photos of the Glidden Hotel looked charming, but alas, they were booked.

We’ve stayed at the new Courtyard at University Circle several times - very convenient to campus, it’s clean and modern with great staff. The only drawback is the valet-only parking option but that’s to be expected in that area. Unfortunately the Case rate at the Courtyard has taken a big jump now that the hotel has been open for awhile.

If you want an “unusual” and cheap hotel experience, I suggest The Alcazar. http://www.thealcazar.com/ It is about 5 minutes from north campus, a historical building that used to have a lot of famous guests. It’s been over a year since I stayed there. It ran $100 a night. Kind of a weird old place. Breakfast was just muffins and power bars with juice/coffee. Rooms are clean but bring your own toiletries as theirs is cheap and limited. Rooms are clean and there is internet although it is a bit weak/slow but adequate.
If you are on a budget or want to stay in a historical place close to campus, then it might be a nice option for you. No one knows about it this place!

BP–sounds cool. That is the type of hotel I like. Unfortunately I have already made reservations…I wonder if they can be cancelled…

@wedgedrive, it’s always worth an ask. Lot of places let you cancel up to a day or two in advance, unless you got a prepaid discount pricing. You many also want to check with Alcazar to see if they even have rooms available for your dates. It is not very well known among the families as it is not on any CWRU postings for recommended hotels. I honestly have not shared it before because 1) it is not a new place and most people like new and 2) I didn’t want to disclose my little secret since it was always available when I needed it, LOL.

If you stay at the Intercontinental Suites (5 minute drive, located at the Cleveland Clinic), tell them you are from CWRU. You get a great discount!

I’ve stayed at the Double Tree Tudor Arms and been very happy. They have a free shuttle to campus or it’s within easy walking distance. If you have a car don’t pay for parking - just slide around back and park for free on E. 107th.

Mondut–Good to know. We stayed at the Courtyard at University Circle & had to pay the $20 parking fee. The hotel was fine, clean, etc but actually nicer than I needed. I would rather have paid 1/2 the $200 and had more Spartan accommodations.

We love La Quinta by the airport. It’s not close to campus, but the RTA stop is across the parking lot so it’s easy to get to Case. It’s clean, inexpensive, offers free breakfast, has free parking, and has very customer-focused employees. We found it on trip advisor, as it has high ratings. They have different sizes of rooms available, including a king room with fold-out couch and a king suite for when we had grandpa and grandma with us at family weekend.

We stayed at cleveland clinic guest house, and I do not recommend it. I called intercontinental for reservations, and that is where they placed us. Walls were thin and it was a noisy night.

I like the Washington Place Bistro B&B on the corner of Cornell and Murray Hill.
It has a simple breakfast during the week and a weekend brunch included. They have let my son eat there once with me, when he was staying in the dorms, as part of the deal, since we were looking at CWRU.
The restaurant across the street is outstanding too, Il Bacio, (the Kiss!). While parking is free at Washington Place B&B, I don’t rent a car in Cleveland, but take the train from the airport a nd walk from the station near South Campus. Its an easy walk to Presti’s for lunch from there, Presti’s is the Italian deli and bakery next to the large Roman Catholic church on the Mayfield.

We are staying at the Glidden. Not terribly expensive (we are from NYC area, though) and location can’t be beat.
