SuMAC (Stanford University Mathematics Camp) 2014

@DiscipulusBonus‌ I feel you, all of the other applications closed april 15th :frowning: I wish they released results a bit earlier…

Yeah I got that exact same email @Vigilante13 :(

Any idea how many more people applied this year?

and It’s ok @DiscipulusBonus, I’m a junior too and it just sucks considering how much time and effort I put into this application. Here comes a summer with 4 weeks of me doing nothing

@DiscipulusBonus Same! :frowning: I was really really expecting to get in… I guess they value olympiads and competitions a lot. I thought I’d be okay because I went to HCSSiM last year, spent a while on my problem set, and got a professor to write my rec for me though

Same reject letter
I think I solved all 10 questions
I am going to attend Yale sunmer :bz
good luck everybody

rejected :frowning:

Accpeted!! Program 1, though I want to change it :stuck_out_tongue: Please start a Facebook group!

Congrats to everyone who got in  . Just a question, what are the chances of an international student who is waitlisted also requires almost a full financial aid? (LOL, I know it’s crazy)

Its not crazy. They said it was strictly need-based and they look at the financial aid applications AFTER sending the decisions, though people and excampers differ. (I myself have got almost full financial aid)

So is there a waitlist for SUMaC, meaning, would kids who are rejected still have a chance to get into the program?

There is a wait list, but it is not for kids who are rejected. They send a different email for wait listed kids that specifically informs them that they were wait listed.

@ANDYYYYYZHAO‌ yeah I got rejected from SUMaC but I’m going to a Yale summer program too!

Got accepted! Anyone else?

Has anyone else not gotten their decisions back?

accepted :)

@inhalee @sky0807 Stats/problem set performance please?

international student from Shanghai, China, right now studying in a public high school in CA as an exchange student… I am actually a senior, but because i am an exchange student so i need to go back to China study one more year to get my diploma there, which is why i am still able to enroll in SUMaC as a senior. (- -so complicated…) and btw i am a girl…
taking Calculus BC, GPA 3.7, finish all the 10 problems.
I guess i am the oldest T T

did anyone finish all the admission questions? could someone PM me if they have it? Thanks in advance.

@Vigilante13‌ if you get it PM me too

Yes, there’s a waitlist. They have exactly 40 spots in the dorm, assuming nothing has changed from last year, and will attempt to fill all 40, even if it means admitting someone a week before the program starts. (Yes, I have seen this happen.) At the same time, they absolutely can’t accommodate more than those 40, so they only admit that many in the first round. I’m not privy to the equivalent of yield numbers, but I imagine this means a fair number of students get in off the waitlist every year.

tingtong: If you’re interested in changing programs, contact Rick Sommer. As far as I know, this is not hard to do; the relative sizes of Program I and II vary from year to year. Disclaimer, though: that may have changed when the size of SUMaC increased from 36 to 40.
