I hadn’t found a thread for SUMaC 2015 so I decided to start one myself. Who all applied? How did you perform on the exam?
Im a junior applying from CA. I answered 4/10 problems but I made an effort on all of them. I probably didn’t answer enough correctly, but I’m really hoping my letter of rec and my short question answers will push my app up a little x.x
Hi guys. @homersimpson123 and @Riemannb, did you guys participate in mathematical olympiads? What were your stats like. School grades etc. How many pages were your proofs. I attempted all 10 but could only confidently solve 6/10
@Dilletante101 I have been participating in the math olympiad from the 8th grade and I have made it to the national level(final level before team selection test and training camp) a few times. Apart from that I have no math related extracurricular. I have achieved the highest possible grades in all the classes that I have taken in school. My solution comprised of around 30 pages in total. I solved all the problems and gave multiple proofs for few. I am pretty sure that all of my proofs and answers are correct. @Dilletante101 where are you from?
@Dilletante101 what about your stats?
@RiemannB Did you answer only 4? Which ones did you not get?
@Dilletante101 how many people from your school have applied to SUMaC?
My proofs were about 39 pages in total. I solved all 10 but was pretty unsure about 5 B) since the question was ambiguous. I am the founder and president of my schools math club. I also participate in national mathematics circles in my country and worked on a research project in hurwitz integers and have participated in mathematics olympiad till the national level. I am from india. What about you?
Stats
AP Calculus BC - 5
SAT I - 2260
PSAT - 229
IB Mathematics HL
Highest grades in all till now.
Well your app is pretty amazing to say the least. I did not include multiple proofs because my scanned document was exceeding the file limit. However I wrote those proofs in the essay questions regarding difficulties and stuff.
If you wrote multiple proofs you will get in for sure.
@Dilletante101 I don’t think that just because I have given multiple proofs, I will get in. That been said, you too have a good app and you too stand a good chance of being selected. Which city are you from?
@homersimpson123 I am from bangalore but studied in delhi before. I know a lot of people from dps rkp who got in and are my good friends. Which school are you from? Did you clear INMO this year?
I did not compete in any math competitions. I have little EC for math, and my answers were only 12 pages long… My only upsides are good letter of recommendation, SAT score, and valedictorian for my school. It is very generic, so I don’t think I have much of a chance of getting in, especially competing against applicants like you guys XP. You guys have some great qualifications! Good luck to you both
@RIEMANN what was your SAT?
hello do you know if you can see the recommendations if you haven’t waived the right to?
no. have you applied sumac 2015? where are you from?
I have applied. I am from Bombay. Check your messages ^

What are your GPAs like? And what colleges are you guys seriously considering?
Do you guys know when the response date is? I know in previous years it was around April 18, but is it the same this year?
I think it says 4.10
How do you cross 4? Do you need to take AP (or equivalent) classes for that? I think mine is 3.85 unweighted.
