I would love to find a place for son to work this summer where he would not have to live at home. Perhaps something like National parks that provide housing for workers. Perhaps a summer resort, can be anywhere. I think a change of not hanging out with the same highschool friends might be good for him (and me!!).Any suggestions? Thanks

CATRINA - there are LOADS of summer internships that would fit that bill - google ''environment intern summer'' and you will see a bunch - also www.aza.org has a bunch - alot at zoo's/aquarium's. Many have housing - and some are paid - but you will have to really search for those. Now is a good time to do that also. Keep an eye on deadlines tho.

Also a couple of other ones - www.coolworks.com - www.nps.gov.

He should be able to find internships thru his school as well - they usually have listings by interest/field/etc...... - most schools have a careers center or something like that - that will have internship info.

What part of the country are you in - or where he goes to school??

A friend of my son's worked at Yellowstone this past summer at the main lodge as a waiter. I looked into it a little for my son and it looked like you are supposed to go to the individual park website for hiring information. Son's friend had had prior wait staff experience and according to his mother that was necessary. I'm guessing they have different requirements for each position.

he could work at an overnight camp...great leadership, plus pay, plus its fun

I second shoebox's suggestion; I'm applying to work at TIP or CTY this summer.

If he's interested in research, he should check out the REUs funded by the NSF. The program consists of research at a university over the summer, room and board, and a stipend of ~$2500-3000.

The student conservation association is a great organization that matches students with jobs. The website is:
