Summer 2013 Admission

Hey guys,
I just received my acceptance from Penn State University Park and I'm majoring in communications. My acceptance also says that I am admitted into the 2013 term. Is there any way of getting out of the summer term and going in the fall?
Please let me know!

You could call admissions and ask to speak to the counselor who is assigned your high school, however if your major is a popular one, EX-Broadcast Journalism, switching to fall may be out of the question. But, do know that summer is actually a great time to go in order to get to know the campus before the rush arrives in the fall (plus, getting a few classes out of the way will only work to your advantage). My oldest daughter is a Junior there now and has said that if she wouldn’t have had commitments the summer before freshman year, she would have definitely started in the summer instead. Also, you will get a jump on meeting other freshman that are there for the summer too.

Why don’t you just do it? if it’s financially viable, do it. You only take like 3 classes, get to know the university, meet people, and have fun. I hear its a nice place in the summer with neat stuff to do. I don’t understand all of the people who put down they would to do summer then try to snark their way out of it after that’s what they get. I put down summer with the intent that had I not gotten fall admission, I would be willing to pay for summer school because I want to go to PSU so much, even though it would put a big financial strain on me.

Does the campus close after summer season ? I don’t want to home come home with all my stuff and then go back again for the fall term ? Do you have to change dorms because its will be hard time carrying all my stuff from one dorm to another dorm…

The summer sessions end about two weeks before fall semester begins. Your summer dorm will not be the same as your fall one, but you will likely in South or Pollock during the summer. You’ll be allowed to move some things into storage rather than schlep them back and forth. As for moving, there will be plenty of people to help you.

I am puzzled by all the students who asked for summer session and now don’t want it. You need to look at it as a great opportunity to get all adjusted to campus life before the rest of the freshmen. You will have taken classes, which means you now get to register a few days ahead of those who didn’t. You’ll be here for arts fest and a 4th of july display that makes national lists. You’ll already know people. You can get a summer job, even!

Ok thanks greenbutton…So I just put my stuff in a store,go home, chill for 2 weeks and then come back or I just stay on campus for 2 weeks ?
I knew I was a boarder line student for main campus so I put summer season but it will put a big financial strain on me. Do you happen to know much the summer season cost ? I will have to ask them to reconsider me for fall term after updating my SAT scores and mid term grades…

Summer session tuition is the same per-credit amount as all the other parts of the year. You can probably find last year 's info online. You will need to move out— the dorms close and you can’t stay, unless you are an international student and have made arrangements in advance. It never hurts to call admissions and ask if you can be switched – I wouldn’t wait to do that.

SO, it will be around 7k ? That seems too much for 1 month…

With all due respect, you did know that college is expensive, right? And when you applied for summer session, did you figure out the cost? All the information is on PSU sites, or at least a good approximation; there’s a new site dedicated to the summer that’s pretty helpful. Think of it as practice for college-go and find out what you need to succeed. (Summer session is 8 weeks, btw—mid June through early August)

I forgot that I selected summer season. Anyway I searched the website and found a lot of info on LEAP, iLEAP but no info on the tuition cost…Do you have a link ? THanks

LEAP costs the same per credit hour as summer session.

SO, $3888 for tuition only which means around 6k for the summer program including room and food
