Does anyone know the dates for the 2015 FASET freshman orientation sessions? We were at Connect with Tech last week and during one of the presentations they said the dates were listed on the website, but that sign ups wouldn’t begin until late May.
I checked the website and it just says “dates coming soon” and I’ve had no success with Google. Need to know dates to plan around for summer travels, plus we are coming from out of state and I want to make flight reservations while fares are still reasonable. Anyone know the dates or when they are likely to be posted???
I don’t know the dates but will share this from our experience last year. I think the sign up date was May 22nd last year, beginning at 9 am. All spots for the first FASET (? July 11) were taken by 9:15. My D got the second FASET which was not ideal because many classes were already taken. It worked out ok in the end though. Because you can’t know for sure which FASET you will end up getting they ask you not too make reservations until you are confirmed. If you are coming from over 600 miles (I think) they reserve the last two FASETS for you (and international) and let you stay to avoid two trips to campus in the same summer.
I believe that’s for the kids who were admitted but have to start in the summer instead of the fall. GT can’t admit all the kids they want so they tell some of them they have to start in the summer or they aren’t admitted. The thing is the kids who start in the summer can get used to college when there are less kids on campus. There are kids in our town that actually prefer that then starting in the fall.
This could be a problem for my son. He will be working all summer at sleepaway camp. He can’t just up and go to orientation without ramifications. Will he be allowed to go to that June FASET or is it strictly for summer starters?
I doubt it. I think the summer faset is so that the summer kids can register for the classes they are taking in the summer. They do have those fasets at the very end of the summer for kids who live a long way away.
It is strictly for the summer starters. I would encourage your son to talk to his boss to arrange time off of work. One thing I have learned with my D at GT is that we are always juggling our life around the GT schedule. For example Family Weekend is the weekend before Fall break. Doesn’t really spread around the time we get to see her but that is life.
Also know you can’t trick the computer in registering for FASET. Last year a student tried to register for the last session reserved for students living more than 800 miles away and she was unable because she lived 798 miles away.
