Hmmm . . . you think I can send a game academy essay? Just in case I don't get into SAMS??

^yes. Your are allowed to apply to more than one program

This is for Summer Prog for Diversity . . . it is still kay to send another essay? You sure?

absolutely positive.

Do you know if this program is extremely selective or not?

I'm a junior with a decent gpa and test scores. Not outstanding, but well, pretty good. My essays and teacher recs are usually pretty good. Do you think that'll be enough?

yeah, it's super competitive. Mainly because of the fact that it's free. Usually all free programs are competitive; especially when the program is long(6 weeks) and offers college credit.

Some are less competitive than others. Is this one like super competitive? (100/2500) or like semi competitive? (100/900)

100/900...

still super competitive in my book...

lol. yeah. It is rather competitive. that's like an ivy's % acceptance. =o

Well, If that's the case, then why are admissions rolling? The admissions officers say it's ok to hand your applications in, even if it's a month late. If it is ultra competitive, shouldn't deadlines be deadlines?

admissions are rolling?

Good point SilverDragon. I was also wondering way they are stretching the deadline so much.

maybe we should email them and ask?

Hopefully not many applied this year so I can get in. =D
lol

^lol...ditto.

anyone know the answer? lol

i guess not.......

hey, applied to SAMS and AP/EA. Ap/EA was my first choice, and SAMS was my second choice. I'm a junior now, and i hope i can get in. HEre's my stats and please let mw know if i have any chance:

SAT: 2160 (CR:720 Math: 760 W:680 (i hate this section!!)
PSAT : 213 (CR: 72 Math: 76 W: 65)
remarkably same, arent they?
Asian and deaf/hearing impaired. I talked about my disability and asianess in my essay and how i'm different from everybody else b/c i had to struggle with my hearing loss and managed to be one of the top 5-10 people of the class (more likely, i'm second of the class).
Grades all A's and the lowest is B+.
Taking 3 APs this year (PHysics, calc, and US History) and several honors for the past three years
stellar recs (i read all of them.:) all the teachers said i'm one of their best student and unlike any of other students) even the cousnelor too
EC: some from the old school and some from the new HS i'm attending now.
so what do u think???? chance me,plz.

did you lose hearing in both hears or just one?

I suffer from uni-lateral hearing loss (left ear).

You have good chances. Someone who attended SAMS last year told me that they care more about the essays then your test scores and such. So if your essays are really good, then you should be okay.

HOWEVER, I don't know how being asian will affect your chances...

Hey, everyone! I'm both bored and anxious, so... would you mind chancing me real quick? I applied to both AP/EA and SAMS, the former as my first choice.

Rank: 1/588
GPA: My school uses some weird scale, but probably around 98 or 99 out of 100, unweighted. Yeah, grade inflation.
PSAT: 231
SAT: 0 (I just keep putting it off...)
AP Classes: World History (5), Calc AB, English Lang, Spanish Lang, Biology, Environmental Science. Also taking Latin through a local university.
Hook: None whatsover. Han Chinese and middle-class. :P
Extracurriculars: Yearbook, lit mag, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, NHS, SNHS, Asian Culture Club, Literary Criticism Competitions. A few officer positions.
Awards: Honor roll, local and state lit crit, writing contests.
Essays: Wow... I really wish I'd spent more time on these. For my diversity essay, I went the cliche Joy Luck Club route and talked about my Asian heritage, how I represent a dual culture, etc. It was really artsy and literary and kind of evasive; I used Columbus's voyage to Hispanola as a controlling image. For my AP/EA essay, I wrote about randomly making it to the state level in literary criticism during my first year of competition. I think I kind of made myself seem dazed at my own success and perpetually grateful for any opportunity I was given. For my SAMS essay, I sort of tied in my interest in the sciences to a desire to experience more empirical learning. I used the tower in the Lady of Shalott as a controlling image... It was really weird; I sort of interwove a drabble type thing inside the essay... Idk if it was a risk worth taking or not.

Like I said, before someone who attended SAMS last year told me that they care more about the essays than test scores, gpa, etc. So although your PSAT score is outstanding, it won't matter if your essay is bad (which you make it seem like it was). I guess you'll have to wait and see. Besides the essays, everything else is good. Also, I don't know how being asian will factor into your admission. Good luck, hopefully we'll both make it in.

Hey, what do you think my chances are?
Class Rank: 2/484
GPA: 4.0uw, 4.84w
PSAT: 218
ACT: 32
SAT: 2280
Hook: middle class, mixed race (half black, half white)
ECs: Varsity Tennis 3yrs., Professional Opera, NHS, SNHS, NAHS, community service, Interact Club, Crew, yearbook
Essays: Well, for my "academic experience" I wrote about my experience in IB and writing my Extended Essay - sadly generic. However, I think my "diversity" essay was pretty funny and unique, so that should help me out.
Recs: My GC loves me more than my own mother, so that should be solid. And I'm sure my teachers wrote great recs. I got one from my Physics 2 AP/IB teacher (there are 7 people in the class, so he knows me really well), and one from my English teacher, who once decided to announce to my class what a "rare gift" I had (although she was referencing a paper of mine she had used as an example, so it was anonymous, thank god).

This year's classes:
Theory of Knowledge IB
Chemistry 1 IB/H
History of the Americas IB/H
Psychology AP/IB
English 11 H/IB
Spanish 5 IB/AP
Physics 2 IB/AP
Calc BC AP/IB
