Hey guys,
I'm a junior in high school and I'm planning out my summer activities right now. I feel like all my activities are just average things that everyone would have on their application. I'm doing things like research, hospital volunteering, etc. What are some activities I could pursue over the summer that I will enjoy, but will also help me stand out on college apps? Thank you and please no rude comments. ^_^

If people post ideas on here, they’re probably going to be unoriginal because someone else has thought of them. Or if they are original, other students will copy the idea as well (since so many people read these threads), and therefore the ideas may no longer be original. My best idea would be to brainstorm unique activities, perhaps relating to some passion of yours (whether that be academics or an extracurricular) and come up with something unique but also something you really want to do. Don’t do it just for colleges, and you should be good.

Also, those are not necessarily average activities. Only the “top” students are doing things like research, so research will definitely make you stand out at really any place except HYP and even there it will help. Perhaps try to do something unique with research.

And finally, don’t take my word for this, but I don’t think college admissions will be judging completely whether or not you get in based on how creative your summer activities are. They want to see that you have done something useful with your summer and not just sit around all day. You’re definitely fulfilling that idea of doing something with yourself.

@ Alpha2014 Hehe thanks ^_^

@ Amplified Thank you so much for your advise and the point you make is very true!
