When does the sign up for Summer advising start? I’ve been bombarded with invitations into STEP, but I’ve got nothing about Summer Advising.

the dates are listed some where. I think the list are inked from some site within you online admissions page.

All I remember is that Engineers do not go until Aug. They are the last group of people to go. At least we will have AP scores by then.

Thanks, I gotthe website with all the FAQ and dates n' stuff...but I don' t know where you sign up... Your an engineering major I presume?

on the my addmissions page

if you participate in STEP, you don't have to do summer advising, that might have to do with why it's not showing up

It shows up in the "my admissions" page and after you sumbit it it is still there and says your group and date and other info

The STEP program looks like a big waste of money, and a lot of money may I add.

Thanks, I declined STEP and it automatically sent me to the summer advising page.

Is anyone doing STEP? oh, and it's not a waste of money if you don't have to pay :)

I'm curious, how much did you get in financial aid?

I get ~18K in financial aid for Davis.

"Is anyone doing STEP? oh, and it's not a waste of money if you don't have to pay "

Thats why most people that do the program are poor. You came across like a jackass though. U got Fin Aid, congrats im sure it feels great to know that there wont be as much weight on you and your parents shoulders now.

But do not come across the way that you did. Many peopl edont get Fin Aid because their parents have made good choices in life. Don't put a god damn smile face their because you dont have to pay. You kno whos paying, me! I work and get taxed for people that do not make wise choices and feel that its ok to just use resources( hard working peoples money) just beacuse you didnt dont make as much since you didnt/ ur parents didnt choose wisely.

I hope you will learn from getting your college payed for that you need to work and find a job that not only you enjoy but pays the bills.

Dont make the same mistakes that your parents made... everyone, including you and I should go by this.

Take the money but act like its your money that you will be paying back to society through out your life. Not just money thats not yours and that is dispensable.

See you at Davis next Fall.

Dont make the same mistakes that your parents made

How dare you imply that my parents are lazy and that they feel that it is ok to use hard working peoples money. You don't even know the situation. You don't even have a right to say that. What if I told you that my parents are divorced and that my mom has to work two jobs to support me and my little brother. Doesn't seem so lazy now does it. Please be a little more sensitive and think before you speak. You never know what the other person is going through.

I am getting a lot of money for college because I worked hard for scholarships, saving up money, and even a side job. So dont even tell me to be grateful for "your money"

And by the way, everybody gets taxed. When youre going grocery shopping you get taxed, when you eat at a restaurant you get taxed, when you work hard you get taxed. So dont make yourself sound so special.

I understand how you can assume that my parents have led lazy lives and taken easy paths, since you work so hard and you feel cheated that others get fin. aid while you probably dont, since youre so hardworking.

I hate being in the Middle Class... Your not poor enough to get Government aid, and your not rich enough to pay your college completely.
I've seen many of my friends in my same situation choose a CSU close by them because they would only have to play tuition and commute from home. I would have gone to Pomona but I convinced my parents we could find the money someway. So I've sent out to scholarships.

"How dare you imply that my parents are lazy "

you just proved my point by saying "my parents are divorced and that my mom has to work two jobs to support me and my little brother."

Your parents were too lazy to work out their problems and stay together. Then when the did split up, why isn't your mom getting any money from your dad. Is it because you Dad is too lazy?

Sorry that was a low blow.

Im not taking back what i said on my other post. I;m not a pus sy thats going to keep my lips sealed. What I said was a generalization and even you know that what I said was the general truth for people in your situation.

Then you go on and state you are getting money by "scholarships, saving up money, and even a side job"
What about your other post , $18,000 in Fin Aid from Davis.

"So dont even tell me to be grateful for "your money"" Im not saying this, all im saying is be grateful for the system and the opprotunity to comfertably afford college. This is an opprotunity ( the gov is investiong in you) for you to make something great out of yourself that allows you to live a great healthy and finacially smart life.

Escape your past and in 4 years ( or more for grad school, etc.) your future should be brighter.

Dont make the same mistakes that your parents made It should be everyones goal to live a better life than their parents, how can you disagree with that?

UC Davis 09

How large are the summer orienation groups going to be?

Damn, finally some feistiness in this forum. Good stuff, I was beginning to think that the Davis students on this forum were quiet, closed-lip introverts that didnt have anything to contribute.

Good to see some action, looking forward to the fall..

i was thinking the same thing! :D

Once upon a time, you could be a bank teller, a bank manager, and in some places even a teacher with little more than a high school diploma. Job requirements have changed and now college educations are required for many jobs. It wasn't wrong for the public to pay for the free public high school then, and it isn't wrong for the public to pay for colleges and universities now.

Every student going to Davis. or any other public university, is subsidized by public tax dollars. Your fees and tuition do not pay the full cost of attending. they do not come close to paying for the construction the construction of buildings or the reseach that goes on. Some departments might get more funding than others based on government priorities and faculty grantsmanship and so their students recieve a greater subsidy. We do this because we recognize the value of having educated citizenry. Accordingly, we offer grants and academic financial assistance to students that we want to access this education. If the state returned to offerring a free college education, which some of your parents had, to all of its students today this discussion wouldn't exist.

Compare getting financial aid for college to playing golf on a pubic course, or flying in a commercial airplane. All are taxpayer subsidized activities. Some small airports are subsidized to the tune of $100 per passenger flight, these airports are often used exclusively by private and corporate aircraft.

To those confused individuals who resent public financial aid are you refusing private scholarships which are created by donations which in turn create tax write-offs, a different form of public subsidy?

I hope by now the OP has figured out when they need to be on campus. Good luck to all of you Aggies, I don't mind my tax dollars going toward your education.
