what do we do after we submitted our SIR
getting our classes and such??
do we need to go there during the summer before fall session??

go to summer advising... you'll learn how to register for classes then.

when is summer advising??
is it manatory

im goin on a vacation during summer....but i dont know when i have to stay in US

The summer advising is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended. It's a three day event where you will be able to take the needed placement tests and registar for classes. For the exact dates you'll have to attend, it depends on either the particular college (e.g. college of engineering) or the major. Most likely the former.

I hear going to summer advising is really fun. Don't miss out on it and don't bring your parents =].

is there any thing between 8/20 to 9/20??

During that time they have the STEP program, but participants have to be invited to take part.

what is the difference between step and summer advising? why do have to be invited?

For STEP, those invited are of a low-income and are under-represented. The program last about a month and allows participants to take pre-physics, pre-chemistry classes, etc, where they can refresh their skill for the necessary placement tests and courses. It is also claims to build social relationships among the participants. With out financial aid it could cost about $ 1200, but if you qualify for financial aid the entire fee may be waived.

Summer advising is about $250 dollars, with no possibility of waiving the fee. It only lasts three days.

Both programs allow you to accomplish the same, but STEP allows you to do more.

so...ill be safe goin on vocation from 8/20 to 9/20 after i attend summer advising?

Yeah, of course. Students move in between September 23rd to 25th. Class begins on the 28th. Check with the Davis to confirm the dates.

www.ucdavis.edu

If we go to the summer advising program, do Davis provide housing for students out of the city...is that what the $250 covers? What if I don't go to summer advising, are there other ways to take the placement tests?

You'll have to take the placement tests during the first week of school. What's worse is that you'll choose registar for classes last. Many will probably be full, so yeah try to attend the summer advising.

My friends are invited to STEP, but they are ****ing smart. One of them took AP Chem (4 on AP Exam), AP Calc AB (he is pretty sure he got 5), AP Physics, AP Gov, another one is taking AP Calc AB, AP Physics and AP Gov. Have no idea why they were accepted to do STEP

Summer advising is only $115 if you only want to attend the day sessions and not stay in the dorms. All the information is available on the summer advising web page.

Is summer advising worth it if I don't plan on taking either placement test?

Definitely. You will receive academic advising and a lot of fun. I would recommend attending summer advising.

What if you're an international student? Would that automatically place you in a disadvantage in registering for your classes? (Especially that I'm planning to change my major)
