Hello I am currently applying for summer at Brown for 2011. I would like to know a few things.
1) although the website tells the typical schedule I would like to see a typical schedule in the POV of a person who already attended the program
2) How did you like the program overall?
3) Should I take one course or two courses
4) How long should I stay there 1 being min and 4 being the max.(weeks)
5) I am a basketball player and need to do off season training I looked at the program website and I see that I need to pay?!?! to use the athletic facilities is this true? Did you have to pay?
6) Curfew (this might be part of number 1)
7) Strictness

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

Do you want to waste a few thousand dollars and have fun during the summer? By all means, go.

Do you want to learn, build connections with professors, and make your summer worthwhile? By all means, stay away.

Brown Pre-College is, of course another moneymaking program so common among Ivy League schools. They use their reputations to draw in naive students just like you (and me, at first), overprice their programs, and toss in lenient RAs to make, oh, I don’t know, several million dollars each summer.

Unfortunately, you missed most of the “good” educational summer programs’ deadlines (if you’re into research, many of them pay you, too). Am I just slandering Brown for fun? No. I’m trying to save you money and time. That is, unless you want to socialize for a week or four.

Crazy, if you look at some old posts about Borwn’s summer program, most people have good experiences and learned a lot, it probably depends on the program you take. I’m planning on going-I got in a few weeks ago. If you want to find out who teaches the course you want to take, look at the side then google the teachers name in Brown’s people directory. I was lucky enough to get about two thirds financial aid so the cost is very reasonable for me. I think it’s better to do something over the summer than nothing.
