Summer@Brown 2009!

Hey! Was just wondering who else applied to the Summer@Brown program? [:
I can’t wait (I think I’ll get in) for the classes, I my first choice was Creative Writing: Fiction and my second choice was The Meaning of Life. Which ones anyone else applying to the program choose?

I want to go. like REALLY badly, but idk if I can afford it. $4,702 is a LOT of money. I love brown though!!!!!!

yea, I was supposed to do it last year. junior year summer break but waaay too expensive. I hope I can afford it this year & get some fin. aid or that dean scholarship!

I might do it. I already have all of my supplies, I just am going to think about it since I have some time left. If I take it, I'm going for Health Psychology/Behavioral Medicine.

hey mcvcm, that's the course I wanted to take too! I'll be a rising junior, how about you?

I think I might take the Science courses that they're offering, or maybe " So you think can be a dr." But, it's rather a large class size. ^ I'm a rising junior too! :)

I think I might take the "Women and Leadership Institute" Sounds fun! I can't wait, I really hope I can afford it : )

Hey Elaine! I am a junior as well and I did decide not to go... saving it for a car instead =)

if anyone's interested in medicine, i did the course "what's up doc?" last summer, and it was incredible. our instructor was actually one of the deans of the Brown med school. we shadowed doctors at various providence hospitals and were even able to observe cadavers.

really? i am interested in Medicine but its sooo expensive. howd you manage to pay for it? Did you get financial aid? im trying to send my stuff in mid february so i can have a better chance at getting the deans scholarship. Also, was it worthwhile, like did you leave thinking medicine would have its doubts or it inspired you even more to have a career in the medical field.

I really wanted to go ;( I've saved up for traveling to France for so long though, which only costs half the money of going to Brown for a few weeks. So I'm going to France. I wanted to take The Meaning of Life though!

Have fun everyone! I was a Summer@Brown '08-er and I absolutely loved my Summer@Brown experience.

I could go on talking about it, but I've already done that. You can read my stories here:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/619924-summer-brown.html%5B/url%5D%5B/b%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/619924-summer-brown.html

Summer@Brown ... it totally brings back memories. It was easily the best 3 weeks of my life there.

Seriously, you'll have THAT much fun, and you'll learn so much.

Btw I took International Financial Markets and Investments ... the instructor for that (he also teaches Game Theory) is AWESOME.

im a freshman and i want to do the one week whats a doc but do u think i should wait atleast another year because i dont want to be the only freshman there

im a freshman too. and i just got in to a three week program there. Am i too young?

I'm excited for you guys. :D You'll have lots of fun!

hey. just wanted to let you know i did summer@brown last year (took "genetics and human behavior" for 3 weeks) and i highly recommend it. it was a really great experience and i guarantee you'll all have sooo much fun.

freshmen, you may be at a slight disadvantage with the work load because some of the classes are pretty demanding and i think the majority of people who go are junior and seniors, but DON'T be turned off at all. you have absolutely nothing to lose and no matter how you do, you will take a lot out of it.

anyway, feel free to PM me or something if anyone has any questions about the program.

Good luck to anyone that applies!

I will be going there this summer hope to see some of you there :)

How does this look on resume?
What about level of impression for applying to Brown?

as far as impressing brown is concerned...well, they're pretty difficult to impress. summer@brown is a pretty big program and i think a huge amount of people who go there wind up applying, however i think it definitely shows a new level of interest.

although it depends on the class, it looks pretty good on a resume. each teacher provides you with an evaluation, so if you did well, its a nice little extra rec you can put in your application. also, i know a few people who asked their prof for an actual college rec and i think having a recommendation from a brown professor is pretty impressive

i find out if i get accepted to summer @ brown in a couple days and i am sooo excited! im doing a 3 week course from july 13-31 and want to take How the Legal System Works: Anatomy of a Case. Anyone else taking that course or know of anyone who has taken it?
