Summer B Course Scheduling

Hi! I am an incoming freshman at UF and I plan on majoring in either Health Science (Pre-professional track) or Communication Sciences & Disorders. My ultimate goal is to become a dentist. Right now I’m trying put together my summer B schedule, as I didn’t like the classes I was put in at preview.

I am thinking of taking any two of these three (3 credit) classes:
ENC 1101, COM 1000, or SYG 2000, in order to fulfill some of my gen-eds. Does anyone know anything about the difficulty level of ENC 1101 and what kind of essays I would be writing if I were to take this class? Is it similar to AP English Composition in that I’d have to write a bunch of rhetorical analysis and argumentative essays?

Also does anyone know if either COM 1000 or SYG 2000 consists of essays as well? I do not want to take two english/writing classes simultaneously (if I decide to keep ENC 1101 on my schedule).

I know this is a lot to read but I didn’t feel my advisor cared enough to help me when I sat down to pick my classes and I would be appreciative of anyone’s advice on course scheduling and knowledge of class difficulty.

Hi!

I took ENC 1101 my freshman year and it was really easy. It was very similar to AP English Comp! However, many different professors teach ENC 1101 so I recommend you: add the course, go to “view textbooks: fall” on ISIS, and scroll locate the class- your professors name will be listed, and you can go on the link I provided below for their specific syllabus.

My same advice applies to deciding between COM 1000 or SYG 2000. I took SYG 2000 as a sophomore and it was plenty of reading but overall an enjoyable course.

Here are some useful links:
ENC 1101 syllabi: http://www.english.ufl.edu/syllabi.html
SYG 2000 syllabai: https://soccrim.clas.ufl.edu/syllabi/
COM 1000 syllabai: http://cwoc.ufl.edu/courses/syllabi/

Note that professors change some parts of the syllabus almost every semester, but this is just a way to give you a good idea of your course load for the semester.

Hope that helps!
