Summer Before College

I'm on the fence right now as to what I want to spend my summer before college doing. My two options right now are 1) to do a paid internship or 2) to travel abroad.

I know it makes more sense to do the paid internship, and believe me, I do want to make money. But at the same time, I kind of want to take the summer before college to relax and move past what should be a rather stressful year and definitely the end of a stressful 4 years.

So, what do you guys think?

i think i'd do the paid internship. that way, you'll make some money and you'll be able to spend some time with friends and family before you leave. also - traveling abroad can be pretty stressful. it is extremely exciting, though.

i think i'm gonna live in NYC, get a job, and do some acting/dacing/sangin/pretending that i'm a starving artist.

Paid internship. Sets up opportunities down the road and it doesn't help to have some extra cash. Plus you will have time to hang out with family and friends before you go off to college and that's what you'll be missing most if you study abroad.

I'd do the internship. It'll give you time to relax and etc. You can always do study abroad later on. And I think it'd be more fun if you do it later on when you're more wise etc.

I agree with everyone else, I would do the paid internship. There will be plenty of opportunities later down the road to study abroad.

i did research before college started. definately opened up more options for me later, and got me some connections

GO ABROAD

An experience like that, if you have a good one, is worth more than you'd make anyway. You have your whole life to worry about money. Screw it for once..

I'd relax and take the summer off, to be honest.

I'm gonna say go abroad (not necessarily study abroad though) Travel through Europe, Asia or whatever other continent you prefer, but have an adventure. I'm the type of person that believes that the memories you make in life are what's important. And doing a paid internship will get you money, but I'm guessing it would still feel like a job. On the other hand traveling is something new and different (unless you've done a lot of traveling) so I feel like that would be a better cap to your last summer before the real world kicks in.

i'm goin to europe this summer (before college). I'm saving the internships and whatnot for summers in college, you'll have more education and connections can be set up then too. I'm only going for 2 weeks, so I'll have a job for money, but traveling is an opportunity i just can't pass up.

I would travel. Why? Although a paid internship is great, you've probably busted your ass for four long years to get into college, and you probably deserve a nice vacation, granted, you did work hard. You're going to have the next four years, and the rest of your life to deal with internships and work, so you might as well reward yourself at the end of one phase of your life, while transitioning to the next.

Plus, it will make for great stories. Wouldn't you want to listen to someones stories about how they traveled the world, rather than stories of them sitting at a desk the whole summer?
