I'm in that summer between high school and undergrad, and I've got nothing planned and am feeling quite unproductive. I'm hoping to transfer once I finish my 2nd year of undergrad. Do colleges look back as far as now? Should I sign up for something? My major is comp sci, but I'm rather undecided about that as well. So if I do volunteer/inter should I make sure it relates to my major? Thinking of volunteering/interning/finding a job regardless of the possible application boost, so any suggestions?

-Way too late for this summer. Kids start looking in December - February, and it was very un-successful experience for my D. She did all of her ECs at her college during school year and she also worked there. Could not get anything at all during summers. On a flip side, she had great relaxing summers, she did not need to take summer classes either. Even to get these very few volunteering positions, you got to be very very persistant. We have waiting lines for them in our city. Not sure about your reasons for transferring. If you want to be involved with ECs and get a job, pusue all of it at your college, not in a summer.

At most colleges, no. After 60 transferable units, your highschool efforts are irrelevant. If you decide to transfer before that mark, you may need to report it along with sats etc…
