Ok everyone… I really need an answer fast. Basically I want to know what looks best for college applications if I want to go into medicine. I just got accepted into COSMOS summer program. Should I go to COSMOS even if they only accepted me for the mathematics (because I didn’t make the cut for the medical program) or should I go to another program centered on medicine (like “The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine”)? Please help. Thanks in advance. Oh… and by the way… I equally want to attend both math and biology-related programs.

I went to COSMOS and had an amazing experience. COSMOS definitely gives you an edge when applying to the UCs. I don't really know how much summer at Brown will really help you.

Both are excellent programs, but neither one will carry more weight with adcoms. I'm not even sure if COSMOS carries more weight with UC adcoms.

I do know students who attended COSMOS at UCSC and UCD last summer, and it is an incredible experience.

It really comes down to if you want to spend your summer at a semi-large university or a prestigious eastern college. Both provide a unique experience that you're never forget.

i dont think either one of them carries weight, but I went to Summer@Brown, and it was ****ing incredible. If you're looking to enjoy your summer, go to Brown.

I'm 100% sure that COSMOS carries weight with UCs. There is even a box on the UC app that you check saying that you went to COSMOS. I loved the summer I spent at UCI doing COSMOS, it was a ton of fun. However, I love the time I'm spending now at Brown even more.

From my observation, the summer programs at colleges don't give kids a boost at that particular college. They draw students whose families can pay. I know students who spent a summer at Brown, did well, and enjoyed it, but didn't get into Brown.

COSMOS is selective and subsidized. It's a great program and leads to scholarships, internships, a network of science-bound California students. It marks you as one of the best science students in the state.

Our experience mirrors sac's, except at a different Ivy. I never thought it would aid in the admissions process. It was just a great summer.

Don't do National Youth Leadership if you can do COSMOS/Brown. EVERYONE gets things from NYLC inviting them to apply. COSMOS is more prestigious than Brown, but you might have a better time at Brown, so it's really personal.

I'd venture a guess saying that what you do over the summer will not have a tremendous effect on your admission decision. I'd do what is most fun for you and most coordinated with your interests.

Thanks everyone. I decided to go to summer@brown so I could primarily check out the campus and have fun. I also decided to go to COSMOS so that I could do something over the summer.

Have fun! I definitely wish I had done summer@brown last year instead of doing nothing.

summer@brown is lots of fun!

That's ok. We get to do college at Brown instead!

Yeah, I did a pre-college program that probably didn't help much in terms of college, but I had a great time. Plus, it made me feel confident that I can succeed in a college environment, both academically and socially.

lol Rabo, you're making me college-sick! (in the homesick sense, not the carsick sense) Just gotta get through APs, then Brown's around the corner! :D

4 months. Orientation starts in 4 months!

Check your post count, Rabo! You're perfect! (the old kind, at least! =P)

Ha, people are posting these new SAT scores now and I have no idea what they mean. I kind of lost track of post count after 1000 though.

I am going to summer@Brown and am SO excited...what are you taking?

how did you find out that you got accepted to COSMOS? By mail or by phone? My dad called up COSMOS, the UCSC cluster, and the recording said they are mailing out the decisions may 4. It really bites. Well, theres always Rose Hulman Catapult.
