Summer Bucket List - What's on Yours?

When my kids were younger, we’d always make a long one, mostly full of local events and traditions (blueberry picking, eating at a particular side of the road seafood shack, maybe a particular hike or mountain bike trail ride). This year, my kids will both be away for much of the summer, so I’m making my own. So far I only have three things: renting paddle boards and exploring the labyrinth of connected lake waters that dot our town, picnicking at Little Island NYC and attending fan appreciation week at the US Open.

Curious if you make one, or if you were to make one…what would be on it?

Get younger S moved and to his new job with a new car 600 miles away. (He will do mostly everything but still…)

Biggest priority - get H a new hip - surgery is scheduled in 3 weeks. Of course please god don’t let him have cancer. His lab work isn’t looking great, but now we have to try to get that sorted beforehand, and have a vacation scheduled next week. And of course, no doctor offices ever like to return calls.

Congrats, @momocarly. Same here. This Saturday. We’re driving down to GA as I type this. A wedding is enough drama for me for one summer. Nothing else in the bucket.

We were in L.A. for S’s graduation last week. I think most of the people staying in our hotel checked off the same item :grinning:

I used to love doing those. Sometimes we’d even fancy it up on a poster board and cut out magazine images of things we wanted to do. I kinda wanna do one for this summer because I feel like it is escaping from me. Can’t believe it’s already June 20th.

We definitely will be going to the beach. I’m hoping to work in some staycation activities like going to the art museum and checking out new restaurants, etc, too. It’s tricky, though. Got both kids at home now. Oldest moved back into the basement with 3 animals, one of which is a rescue dog with high needs and past trauma who needed a yard, and younger one is home from college for the summer. The rescue dog is not ready to be left alone for long periods of time so we are trying to cover that between the 4 of us.

I just picked strawberries with friends, a yearly tradition. Need to get the bike out and start using it. And clean up my disaster of a drought ridden yard, after 6 weeks away. Camping is scheduled, as well as time with offspring and grandchild near Lake Michigan.

It’s often the same things…
-spend as much time by water as possible
-go out for ice cream regularly
-stay out and read on the deck chaise lounge until dark as often as possible

  • take advantage of farmers markets where ever I am
  • enjoy outdoor dining at home and at local restaurants (because months to do this is limited here)

I look forward to patio lunches with friends, concerts in the park, spending time with my siblings and their families, time on the boat (and in the water) with H, D, S, SIL, GS, and GD, and enjoying lots of activities and sports with my grandchildren.

Last year was our first in Minnesota and it was busy with getting settled and then the arrival of our first grandchild. We missed a lot of things. This year we we are planning to go to a place further north on a lake for a few days and will definitely get to the state fair.
