Hello everyone. This summer, I plan on taking summer classes since I'm double-majoring and would like to get ahead.

I'm wondering how many classes I should take? I'm definitely going to take one for the 1st segment of 2 months, but would adding another one or possibly two along with working 30-50 hours be too much? I've never taken summer classes before, but I've heard it all goes really fast.

Thanks for your input!

I wouldn’t take more than two (real classes) at the same time.

Last summer I had two CS classes together, for a total of 8 credits. Just the time of commuting and sitting in class meant I couldn’t do much of anything from 9am-9pm, which made getting homeworks and projects done on time a real challenge. I knew all the material, but the time it took to complete assignments, and the time in class and lab, really left no time whatsoever.

That said, I’ve only done Physics (at CC) and Comp Sci (at UCB) over the summer… if you’re thinking humanities, different rules may apply. Summer goes twice as fast as a normal semester, so you should take roughly half the credits you usually would, or less if you want to work a lot or have some free time.

Yeah, 8 credits does seem to be a good number since the classes go twice as fast. I was thinking on taking a general literature class and an upper-level writing class, so that may or may not involve more work to do. I don’t know if I’d be able to handle 3 while also working…

Thanks for the input!
