This is for experienced cc-ers

I've only taken 3 classes at cc. I go to ucsd and i'm hoping to transfer to LA (i'm not getting into Berk). But i'm also applying for law school in a few months. (I know you may think i'm silly for trying to transfer when I only have a year left, but I just think getting that degree from UCLA would look better than UCSD cause I'm not a chem/bio major, and who knows if i will get into law school). Anyways, enough of the background information.

I want to boost my gpa, so I'm thinking of taking 4, 3-unit administration of justice ONLINE classes.

I take 4 4-unit classes during the school year every quarter. The reason I am a little afraid is that i remember one summer cc i took diffeqs and multivariate calc and it was a LOT of work. and that was only 8 units. But then again, this isn't math, and it's all online.

Is it doable if i only work part time or don't work?

Thanks.

why do i feel like i’m going to end up like the guy in orange county?

sniffles

i’m not catching the reference…

has nothing to do with your post… i just mean in terms of rejection from dream school. but then again… money can make your dreams come true. ^^

what’s that quote? something like “hey i didn’t go to college, and look at me i’m kick ass”

scratch that, it’s " Dude, I never went to college and check me out. I’m kick ass! "

cr, i think you are okay. in my experience, online is easier than actually attending. you could have a part-time job and do fine.

okay, thanks for the input sopheee

actually, i think online classes take much more work than regular classes. since you’re not there in person, they expect you to make up for it with tons of hw. well thats just from my personal experience, but i think you’ll be fine! just try to find nice/easy teachers :P

i’m sure this varies but i can’t find out specifically at my cc the answer (dvc). Is there a maximum number of units you can take for summer?

it varies with each school but for mine, it was 12 units. i’m sure you could petition it easily though

It’s in the catalog. Maximum of 12 units for summer at DVC.

dang it…thanks for looking it up cooldude6

I would advise against this. Law schools are not dumb. If you randomly took four AOJ classes in the summer a year before applying, classes which have no relation to your major, get A’s in all of them, and had a consistently low (relatively-speaking) GPA before then, law schools will notice; ultimately it could work as a detriment instead of a boost.

Remember, law schools don’t see your GPA but your entire transcript – which classes you took, where you took them, when you took them, etc. and if something does not fit the pattern it will not do you the good you me be presupposing it would.

no my gpa has a huge trend upwards. my first quarter i got a 3.075. but every quarter after that has been higher than the previous (with one exception). my winter most recent gpa was 4.0 and i’m going to get a 4.0 or 4.165 (law school) gpa this quarter. I will explain that I am trying to graduate early and I need the units (which I do) in order to do it. that can’t look THAT bad.
