Summer classes at UCI

I see…I don’t think I’ll be able to finish in 2 years.

Oh btw, a UCI representative will be at SMC where I go to welcome students who got there…if you guys have any questions, let me know here and I’ll ask him

Just signed up for classes! yay 2,318 dollars …

anyone know where/what building i can talk to a counselor about taking summer classes at UCI? cause im currently planning to transfer to UCLA but i live in irvine, so it would be alot cheaper to go here and live here instead of in a dorm in LA. i wanted to ask about if certain courses at UCI were transferable/equivalent at UCLA

@Bookham‌

I think all of them are transferable to any UC. This isn’t like a CC where some units transfer to a CSU/UC. If you think about it, why would they restrict certain classes to a specific UC? That sounds overtly complicated. Also, if you are taking extension classes, that’s an entirely different ballgame.

In addition, you do NOT need to send a transcript to UCLA once your summer session is over at UCI. It’s automatically posted on your UCLA transcript.

I’m currently enrolled in 1 UCI summer class, live in Irvine, and also SIR’ed to UCLA by the way, so…I’m just like you haha.

@Bookham‌

If you’d like a counselor to give you a definite answer, just give them a call. Keep the question brief since if you go over a few minutes, that’d be a “drop in” question, which gives you 10-15 minutes of their time.

@BurntCorpse‌ woah small world lol. okay thanks for the info! i kinda just wanna know if i can take a 3rd semester (well quarter in this case i guess) of physics at UCI and if it will be equivalent to the physics course i need to take a UCLA. also if there are any equivalent biochem courses at UCI to UCLA’s 153A,B, and C series. Do you know where i can find/have the number to call/building to go to about this kind of inquiry? I dont mind just going over to UCI since, after all, i do live close by. also just out of curiosity, what class are you taking at UCI?
Note: sorry for all these questions, im just kinda lost right now; still kinda in shock about the UCLA thing

@Bookham‌

You can look at the class schedule and see if any Bio/Physics classes have the same/similar name.

An easier route would be to open up assist.org, compare transferable courses to UCLA with your CC, write down the course you get credit for at UCLA, and do the same exact thing, but with UCI. Remember where each course

Now that you’ve done that. See which UCI courses were in the same spot as the UCLA ones by matching it with the CC course.

It sounds complicated, but that’s one way you can compare which classes are similar in nature. You should get credit for them since you would’ve gotten credit for them if you took it at your CC.

I’m taking Domestic Gangs, which is Soc Sci 164B

You know what? Just tell me which CC you go to and which prereqs you’re missing that you’ll need to take at UCLA, but want credit for them by taking it at UCI this summer. I’ll need to know your major as well.

I’m in shock as well. I still believe they mixed me up with someone else since I have one of the most popular last names in the world (i.e. Kim).

@BurntCorpse‌ I go to Irvine Valley College and am transferring as a Biochemistry major. I am missing physics 4C at IVC which i think corresponds to UCI’s Physics 7E? so would this class be equivalent to UCLA’s 1C or 6C? also the only problem with this method though is that i cannot look up upper division course equivalencies like for UCLA’s chem 153 but awesome tip! also i think assist.org is updating their systems or something cause i cant seem to look up the agreements…

@Bookham‌

I go to IVC too!

After looking at assist.org, there doesn’t seem to be any comparable course at UCI. I looked at 7E, but that doesn’t correspond with Physics 4C at IVC.

Physics 1C can be fulfilled by taking Physics 4C at IVC though, but you already know that lol

Is there any way you can take Physics 4C at a different community college? It costs over 1k to take 4 units at UCLA for the summer. I know this because I paid 1.2k for UCI’s 4 unit summer class.

I just looked up all the summer schedules for IVC, GWC, OCC, CCC, Santa Ana College, Santiago Canyon College , Fullerton College, and Cypress College

None of them offer Physics 4C or its equivalent. Some offer Physics 4A, but you’ve already completed it…

Now I know why my counselor hounded me to complete science sequences at IVC hahaha…

I’d definitely call a UCI and UCLA counselor for this question. You can also try talking to an IVC counselor, but I doubt they’d be helpful.

@Bookham‌

If you can take it at UCLA this summer, I’d definitely do it. Also, if you need a ride, I can offer you one since I’m taking a UCLA class during summer session A and C as well

Here’s my schedule

Summer Session A

M/W/F 10-11:50

Summer Session C

T/TH 1:30-4:30

Physics 1C (for both sessions) starts around 2:30-3:45 Monday-Friday, but discussions pushes it to 5pm for session A, and 11:30-12:30 for session C.

@BurntCorpse‌ oh dang you plan on commuting to UCLA from Irvine?!?!? That sounds tough. If not at UCI, I will most likely dorm at UCLA but thanks for the offer! I plan on just going over to UCI on Tuesday to ask them a few questions; do you know the best place to go to ask these kinds of questions? I also plan on calling UCLA just to be sure I can take summer school classes at all cause of my unit limit problem. Cause I have 8 units from a four year university, I’m subjected to a unit limit when transferring. Unfortunately because of the unit limit, I’m not allowed to take any more classes at cc, only 4 year universities; maybe even only UCLA.
