Hello! I know I’m a little late, but i was wondering if y’all would chance me. I’m trying to transfer back in state to UT from Virginia Tech, where I spent my freshman year. Here are my stats:
Transferring from Virginia Tech
GPA from 1st year: 3.51 (I know it’s a little low, but I took some really challenging courses 2nd semester), I did make the Dean’s list at Virginia Tech
I applied to COLA
1st choice major: English
2nd choice major: COLA undecided
I submitted 3 pretty strong essays, at least in my opinion. Writing essays has always been one of my strengths, so I’m hoping they were pretty good by UT standards.
I had 3 letters of rec, 1 from a professor in the English Dept from Virginia Tech, and 2 from UT alum who were my teachers in high school
I didn’t do a whole lot first year of college since I wanted to focus on getting good grades but I did participate in Chi Alpha and some volunteer work.
I have 276 hours of volunteer work from high school, and I have a lot of ECs from HS, but I know they don’t take that too much into consideration as a transfer.
I know my chances aren’t super high due to low GPA and lack of ECs freshman year, but do I at least have a chance at COLA undecided?
Congratulations @mrmmrm , I know how you’d have felt to see that congratulations on that dreaded screen we have been glued to since the last two months.
@gneu14 , It’s tough with that GPA and folks with COLA as their 2nd option being accepted now makes it harder. But don’t loose hope, your essays might be holding you so far, so you do have a chance. People with lesser GPA’s have been accepted in the past.
@cathys424 , It’s just my personal feeling that many people are keeping COLA as a backup option to maximize their chances, which is not bad. UT would have limited space even for COLA which might come to hurt folks really looking for COLA.
Hey y’all, my application is still in for review and I just sent in my final transcript a couple of days ago. Posted on here before with my stats, but no one chanced me so I guess I’ll give it another shot.
1st choice: Advertising, Moody College
2nd choice: COLA undecided
Fall GPA: 3.41
Spring GPA: 4.0
Cumulative: 3.71
Strong-ish essays (both probably 8/10)
3 rec letters: 1 from my intro to comm professor who is a UT alum, 1 from my global understanding professor (also a UT alum), and 1 from my supervisor at the food bank I volunteer at regularly.
High school: Held leadership positions on sports teams and was VP of Young Democrats, earned state and district awards for my school in TAPPS Ready Writing, volunteered with church youth group fairly often
College (St. Edward’s University): Member of a “Global Issues Living Learning Community”, held a desk job as well as taking 16 hours per semester, volunteered at a local food bank approx. 3 hours/week, member of Students for Sustainability and Amnesty International
@texaslivin Chancing is a very big word :). My guess is anyone else’s. Anyway, I think you have a very good shot with the spring gpa and awesome EC’s. I feel you’ll be in, just a matter of time.
My application is finally complete and now I’m waiting to go into review… the wait begins , good thing is that I’m CAP so I’m guaranteed admission into undergraduate studies. So the fear of not getting into the university isn’t there but engineering is
does anyone know when the deadline is to send in the high school transcript? This is a requirement once youre accepted but I probably have to have mine evaluated since I graduated HS from Germany so it might take a while…Thanks in advance!
I wanted to know if i have to send my spring transcripts.
My conditions are:-
I have completed 30 hours.
i will complete physics 1 in the spring semester which is a requirement for engineering.
Do i need to send in my spring transcripts or will they ask for it. Please help me. Thanks!!
I was told by admissions that even if you have 30+ hours already they will still eventually need that spring transcript. If you have 30+ hours, they won’t use that transcript to determine if they admit you or not, but they will still need it. I’m assuming you can send either before or after you have been admitted. Also, yes it is theoretically possible that if your GPA drops because of your spring grades, they could take away your admission, but it would have to be a REALLY drastic drop off.
It definitely makes sense to send your spring grades after admission. However, the question is if we should send our spring grades before they admit us. So I’m wondering if there is anyone here who has finished 30 hrs and still get an SGR?
Haven’t been admitted yet, had 30+ hours at the time of my application and haven’t gotten an SGR. I told my university to go ahead and sent my final transcript once grades are posted for this semester. Might as well send it now, plus like I said they said they won’t take those grades into account when making the decision.
