How extensive should your knowledge of global issues be before hand? I also feel like it being only one week long is a bit short. Is there anything similar that is more than one week long? I'm not really in a great position to pay (what with $26,000 a year going to my sisters college that has terrible financial aid) so I'm really looking for free things...

I just love the fact that the program is discussion based. I love classroom discussion. And I mean love.

Oh and another thing... I'm a confirmed Catholic (8 years of CCD and all)and all but I don't really go to Catholic church regularly. I sing at a Lutheran church during the school year and attend the services weekly. I guess I'm worried that if I apply and get accepted, other students will have a better religious knowledge base than I do.

Comments/suggestions?

Not to be rude, but you seem like you want to know everything before you get there - part of discussion is bringing up what you know and then learning from other people — the fact that others may have a better religious base shouldn’t matter because then you can learn something when you get here … the fact that you might only know 50% as someone else on global issues shouldn’t detract you because then you learn about these things. It is fine to be naive sometimes

And if you are looking for something cheap, I would stay local as well (and I don’t know where local is)

…Yeah… Not trying to know “everything” before I get there… I was just wondering if I would be out of place. Clearly not then.

reading my post I was quite harsh - it was a bad morning — sorry about that. I am actually kind of the same way in that I like to prepare for events before I go to them too. If I were you I would take some time and read sites like cnn.com and sites like those and that will help — as for religious issues – i am sure there are catholic sites as well – if you are ever bored then you can use those.

I never went to seminars when I was in high school, so i don’t know about free ones vs. paying for ones, but I would go to one near you unless you are interested in a school and in that case I would use it as a visit (so you only pay once for the flight there, etc).

Thanks. And I appreciate your humility. :)
