summer homework for next years ap classes?

thesiren72102:
That was the first thing my AP Spanish Literature class read, along with two Garc

I love Heart of Darkness!!!!

For my school, we have to read A Prayer for Owen Meany for AP Eng, and do some reading and multiple choice questions for Bio, and a few porjects for Comp Sci. Nothing for Calc BC though!

All I have to do is read 1984 by George Orwell, which I've already read. I don't have to write an essay like I did last year. That's all I have to do for all of my AP classes.

something for English that I've forgotten about
Au Revoir Les Enfants for French
something for Gov i've forgotten about
nothing for bio.

For bio we just have a 400 page workbook to do. For Lit we have to read five books +presentation+10 page paper...I'm thinking about dropping that class, my summer is already full and I'm really lazy.

5 looong books for AP lit
summer hwk (dont get it til august) for AP Calc BC
read a few chapters do some multiple choice stuff for AP Bio

None for AP Latin!

^^^

Those classes don't require summer material anyhow. Except French, which you should probably work on independently.

ap chem calc and us: NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ap english lang: lots of books write essays about it dont know much about it cuz we havent talked to her yet

American Lit Honors (Not an AP class, but we have to take an AP test for it at the end of the year):
The Things They Carried
Their Eyes were Watching God
^read those and analyze them

APUSH:
Chapters 1-16 in the American Pageant.

I actually think a little bit of summer work is good in Spanish and Calculus to keep skills up to par. Some quick worksheets or something like that. However, I would hate having to do essays or reading books for English.

Last summer, my summer assignments for AP English included reading the Grapes of Wrath, completing 5 1-page analyses of quotes from the book, reading Barbara Ehrenreich's (sp?) Nickel and Dimed and taking notes ot prepare for a test upon our return, writing a 2-3 page essay (double spaced I think) on Bowling for Columbine, and 5 1-page analyses on articles taken from different sources (NY TIMES, etc).

The AP USH assignments included reading The Crucible, writing an essay in response to its characters, conducting research on the time periods and colonies and writing a few pages on that, and reading Founding Fathers and preparing for a multiple choice test on it. There were also a few EC assignments- response to the film of the Crucible and a diary of weekly activities to be compared to colonial life.

I ended up doing about 2/3 or the work and then learned i was moving to Georgia.

This summer I need to read 4 books and write 350 words on each. None of my other AP's have given assignments.

English- Read 1984, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Rocket Boys. For each book, we must do a character identification for each character, minor or major, that shows up in the book, then we must choose ONE of these for each book and prepare an oral report:
1. The significance of an important scene
2. The growth experienced by a major character
3. The development of the theme

AP USH- Read Founding Brothers and write an analytical essay on one of the three questions she gave us.

Where are you notified about summer work? We're not knowing our schedules even until July.
And LoTR for summer reading is interesting -- perhaps, in AP they should've taught at least Silmarillion.

Wow. Rocket Boys as summer reading for AP Eng? That's pretty interesting. I thought that book was inspiring when I read it in eighth grade...

AP Eng -- Far From the Madding Crowd, Pride and Prejudice, Hamlet, Heart of Darkness, A Doll's House. If you manage to finish all 5, there's passages out of our giant 1500-paged textbook.

AP Bio -- 6 chapters from Campbell's textbook and about 150 review questions.

For AP Bio... I have to read a book and answer questions, plus do current events reports or something... she's emailing us a bunch of stuff to do. On top of that, we have to take the G/T (what other people call honors) Bio Final the first week of school for a quiz grade.. not good haha.

I will probably have to read something for AP Lit too, not sure what yet

AP Spanish Lit- read "100 Anos de Soledad" + prep for comprehension test on first week/day of school

AP English Lit- read "Brave New World" + "1984", write a compare/contrast essay for both + we have to divide each book in 3 parts and for each part write a reading log of our thoughts + important quotes + summary... I think there's gonna be a test too about the books

AP Environmental Science- read "Silent Spring" + write reading journal for each chapter read (summary + reflection) + do this current events journal, which basically is we have to find an article (at least once a week for the entire vacation) related to "Silent Spring" and write reflection about it... test about book during 1st week of schookl

AP Calc BC- problem sets + study notes + do more practice for first day back to school test chp. 9.1-9.4 (haha, i kinda forgot what they were about... =3=) ... the teacher never checks the HWK, but i mean you kinda have to do it to LEARN from + PASS his tests

AP Physics C- read chp. 1 of the book + wrap book... haha. teacher says no test will be done BUT he'll just jump to chp. 2 + expects us to know the stuff discussed in chp.1

phew....

well, i suppose I shouldn't be complaining, because taking a glance @ other people's responses, especially the 23 page assignment ... kinda freaked me out o___O

To mr_chipset:

In our school you sign up for the AP course + the respective AP teacher for that course will give out the HWK you need to do if you want to be in the class (in Mayish) .... before, on the first week of school, some teachers would kick students out if they didn't do the work, but now, because AP classes are like dimininishing in people # (i think) they decided NOT to kick people out but just give them 0s for the work.

And I think they believe grade-conscious people, when realizing their grade is a 70 or something by the end of the quarter, will drop on their own (though the drop period has diminished to 1-2 weeks only.. to prevent dropping)

haha.. sorry i digressed. hope i answered ur doubt?

for AP English, we have to read and analyze The Awakening, In Cold Blood, and several essays from Slouching Towards Bethlehem. We also have to do vocab.

Nothing for Cal BC, Chem, Physics C, US Hist, and Psych though

AP Eng Lit- 2 books and a completed college essay
AP french lit- 1 or 2 books
AP Phys- ?
AP Psyche- ??
AP Calc-??
nothing else has been assigned yet.. but no doubt it will be soon :'(

Nothing for Calc or USH
A Physics packet for C proving we know what we're doing with basic math. :P
Brave New World, Brave New World Revisited, and Utopia for Eng Lang
Forcing myself to read L'etranger and Le contrat social for French.
