Hi! I am going to take some Summer courses at NYU. I am an international student, and my top priority is to have a single bedroom, hopefully with a private bathroom.
As to my choices, I like Rubin but I have read it has no A/C so Summer there doesn’t sound like fun.
I was also thinking 3rd Avenue North, or Alumni, or 2nd Street. which one of them has single bedrooms WITH private bathrooms? (and I dont mean for the whole suit, I mean private like just for me)
This is a key point of my program for me, and application hasnt begun yet, so I was hoping to get tips from someone who already lived there.
The only dorm that has single bedrooms with private bathrooms are the studios at 2nd street, but they are few and far between and they also generally suck. If that is really a necessity for you (and I really don’t see why it should be), look somewhere other than NYU housing. If you’re willing to be more flexible, alumni is all single bedrooms with bathrooms shared in suites of 2-4 bedrooms
thank you so much! btw how bad can rubin be in summer without A/C? Im really tempted by the fifth avenue address lol
By the way, my choices would be as follows:
a) Private studio at Second Street.
b) Single bedroom Alumni Hall
c) Single bedroom Third Avenue North
d) Single dorm at Rubin Hall (though it has no A/C)
What do you think? where did you live? how was it?
I’ll reiterate; Second Street sucks majorly. Rubin sucks with or without AC, I would aim for alumni. And just because you request a single, does not mean that you’ll get one
I understand… I will then aim for alumni or 3rd N. However could u please expand on why second street sucks? This is the kind of info we dont get on websites. Thanks!!
Just shoddy appliances and fixtures, very old building, small rooms
I have to thank you again @jazzcatastrophe you are of great help. I have thought about my priorities and I think I might go for “apartment style reduced rate” which includes palladium hall, gramercy Green and othmer in Brooklyn. now, my question is, i DO NOT want to live in Brooklyn. If I apply for this “apartment style reduced rate” option; can I comment that I do not want Brooklyn as a choice?
Besides it says that Othmer is (and I quote) “for educationally related program/activity only”. what does that mean?
Well my next best choice is the double triple in 3rd a N, or Brooome, or Clarlyle or Coral. In that order. What do you think?
Those three questions are for you, Im looking forward to your answer.
I think that Othmer is for people studying at Poly over the summer, so if you are not taking classes at Poly, I doubt they’d put you there. I think you can rank some reduced rate and some non. I would strongly suggest Gramercy because even though it is farther from classes, the rooms and buildings and appliances are gorgeous, and the area is wonderful. Carlyle is also pretty great
Dear @jazzcatastrophe I have again to thank you for your constant participation. It’s been of great help and has actually made me reconsider some choices. I was going to direct message you, but I decided that if we leave these comments here it can be of great help for others in the future (I have read posts as old as 2007).
Ok, back to my housing choices of the momento haha I have told myself to be more flexible so I decided to aim for a doublé triple room… I was going for a single because I am shy but I’ll try to be brave.
My top five choices NOW would be:
- Low cost doublé/triple at GRAMERCY GREEN
- Low cost doublé/triple at PALLADIUM HALL
- Double/Triple at THIRD AVENUE NORTH
- doublé/triple at CORAL TOWERS
- Double/ triple at GREENWICH HOTEL
I have left aside the rest for different reasons (bed in the living at Carlyle, gaps between the ceiling and the Wall in Lafayette and Broom).
so… what do you think now? what would YOU do?
It looks like a pretty reasonable list, and I would guess that you would likely get either Gramercy or Palladium. Honestly, if you’re shy, a double or triple is probably better because it forces you to interact with people and make some friends/acquaintances
