Does anyone know anything about summer financial aid? I need to know so I can decide if I will dorm or if I will have to look for an apartment. :(

Please help, it would be much appreciated! :)

Summer is considered a non-essential term so financial aid is very limited and consists mainly of loans. I had extremely low EFC last summer and for my $8000 travel study program I received $400 in pell grants (which then reduced my pell grant for this academic year… -_-) and $1100 in university grant (max amount awarded for 8-11 units). The rest of the aid was in loans. However I was only taking 8 units worth of classes which reduced aid. Don’t count on too much aid. To save money I would definitely recommend subletting an apartment as it would be way cheaper!

They break down all the info here: http://www.fao.ucla.edu/Publications/2014-2015/Summer_Guide.pdf

@petaandpita Thanks for the insight. I’ll keep that in mind when I talk to my parents about summer housing.
