Hi, I’m a rising sophmore and am looking to get an internship next year (when I am a rising junior) at a consulting firm in the bay area, where I live. I’m most interested in financial/investment consulting or tech consultants. Do you guys know how I should get into the business of consulting by the summer of 2016?
@1020pixels Hey! I don’t know much about the consulting industry – journalism and public relations is my forte. To break into the industry when I was in high school, I joined (actually founded as there was no pre-existing) my high school newspaper and did volunteer PR work for local non-profits, got connections and applied. I have a close friend with no science research background who sent a genuine cover letter and resume off to a professor at CUMC and got a nice research internship for himself. This isn’t some regulated industry or anything, and you honestly don’t need the connections. Join a related club this year in school, and when February comes around, send around a heartfelt cover letter stating your interest in the field and getting the internship to several local consulting companies, and I’m sure you’ll get positive replies. Best of luck!
