Hi,

I would advise you to visit the websites of faculty working in the department you are interested in. There should be descriptions of their research, from which you can decide which professor you would most like to work with. When you email, mention that you read about their work, why you are interested, and possibly include a resume or just talk about previous experiences that qualify you for the position. If you haven’t had previous experience, just a simple “I’m really interested in your work” sounds good too. Lastly, should the professor accept you, make sure you get a chance to meet him/her in person to talk about what you will be doing. This will keep you from roping yourself into an internship you’ll end up detesting. Hope this helps!
Thank you!
