Summer Internships

Hey everyone..I was recently accepted to UMich for the Class of 2016. I was just wondering if I would be able to find an internship during summers on the east coast, closer to my home (I'm from Jersey). If I had to I could stay in Michigan over the summers but obviously I want to come home and see my family, and I have to do internships as it will be needed to get into grad schools or land a top job. Any advice or personal anecdotes would be greatly appreciated! Go Blue

nobody has any idea???

Not sure what field you are going into but internships are everywhere. Also why would they be easier to find in Michigan than anywhere else unless it has something to do with the University. My friend’s daughter got one last summer out east and we are from Michigan.

A lot of recruiters from Michigan based company’s (both small and large) prefer hiring locally. For instance, Michigan based chemical/power plants tend to hire Michigan students rather than out of state students. This often leads to savings in travel and housing costs. Also it’s much easier to visit local universities to actively recruit.

Of course, there’s a lot of out-of-state options for internships particularly with larger companies. I’m not too sure what the OP wants to study but in engineering Lockheed, UPS, EPA, J&J all have offices/plants in Jersey.

What is your intended major? Approximately 40% of Ross students get internships in the Northeast. Last year, the 3 largest destinations for Ross BBA interns were Bank of America (11), JP Morgan (11) and Goldman Sachs (10). Other large East Coast desinations of interns including UBS (7), Credit Suisse (6), Morgan Stanley (6), Deutsche Bank (5), Barclays Capital (4), BCG (2), McKinsey (2) and Bain (1).

@juicycranbeerry98 LOL. What is the point to response to a 3+ year old thread with information for another school?
