You could see if there are class offerings at a cc if you're interested in taking class. Volunteering really depends on your fields of interests and local offerings. Try libraries, hospitals, nursing homes, or community center groups.

If you don't have a job yet, looking for part time work is always a good option. You get work experience for future resumes, earn money, gain potential recommendation choices, and show that you're willing to do more than sit around. Taking initiative is both appealing to colleges and also helpful in the long run.

As for books, look on any list of suggested reading for college bound students. I'm sure you'll have covered many in school already, but they're always more enjoyable when you aren't being pressured to read by a certain date or analyze every paragraph. Exposing yourself to some of the "classics" really does help as you get older and progress to harder classes. You don't have to only focus on Dickens, Shakespeare, and Proust, though-- read a play by Moli

Have fun????

write ur essayz

find an internship...

I second the get a job. That way, you actually have money to go out with your friends.

The cure to cancer is always a possibility, but I third the job idea.

read a book that you can talk about during interviews. something off the beaten path that will impress interviewers.

anything by vladimir nabokov, to start.

hahahahahahaha

haha @ the vladimir nabokov

For those of you actually tempted to do this solely for the sake of the interview (if you're validly interested, by all means, have at it), don't. The interview is supposed to a conversation, and while it's cool to be like "oh, yeah, I read this obscure really impressive book," it's cool when you get to the point where you're swapping recent good reads with your interviewer. Or just both talking about your love for Jane Austen. Both actually occurred.

Just a thought.

So maybe amend this to, go read those books you've been meaning to for years but have never had time to read.

i was only half joking about the nabokov...he is a great writer and well respected.

...just don't talk about having relations with little girls. :-)
