I worked at a summer camp at my school that's for high school students this summer. Does anyone know of various summer music camps that employ college students as musicians and/or camp counselors like that for the summer? I'm maybe looking for something for next summer that would be a few weeks longer to work at if possible.

Camp Encore Coda hires college students.

Litchfield Jazz Festival offers RA positions. They don’t pay but you get room and board and can attend the festival and master classes.

Berklee also has RA positions but I am not sure if they are open to non-Berklee students.

I suspect Interlochen has counselor jobs as well (although I don’t know as we are not an interlochen family).

Interlochen does hire college students as cabin counselors. During my son’s summers at Interlochen, all of his cabin counselors were in college. Not all were music majors though.

I worked at Interlochen every summer during college. There are many different positions besides counselor, too. I worked at the hotel desk there, since I was a business major. Several of us took private lessons with Interlochen faculty on a weekly basis, too. I don’t know what the lesson policy is now, though, as that was many moons ago!

BUTI has counselor/RA type jobs for college students - I suspect most music camps do. However, if you want to actually do hands-on music teaching at the camp, that may be more difficult. Soundfest has a sort of internship/apprenticeship program where the college level quartets also coach one of the younger groups in addition to performing, and D3 worked as a counselor at a local day chamber music camp where she got to do some coaching (although no performing). I would imagine you’d be able to carve out a couple of hours for practice if you were an organized person, though.

I’d be open to either the camp counselor position at a music camp, or like doing a combo thing of that with playing in chamber ensembles with students or something like that like I did this summer, or also being a piano accompanist. Just basically some summer camp that’s for music where I can go there and be paid for it, and that is for most of the summer like a early/mid-June to early/mid-August sort of thing.

Interlochen’s summer music programs range in length from 2 weeks for the youngest grades to six weeks for high school.

While this is an older thread, wonder if current posters might have some additional suggestions for summer job/internship opportunities for a college music major (composition). Just trying to cast a wide net! Thanks.
If you don’t need to be paid: Center for New Music in San Francisco takes interns. And Other Minds. Both are good for composers.

Encore/Coda in Sweden, Maine, hires music majors for both music and non music counselor and activity positions.
