Our deposit is in the mail, but until they receive it and process it we apparently can’t access the orientation dates… But we’d like to book a hotel. So I have heard that they do an orientation right before move-in-day for the kids that live far away, so does anyone know the dates of that??? Thank you!!!

I didn’t see that one on the list. The last one I saw was July 8th through 10th…but maybe hey added one? I will check again and let you know.

They told me that long-distance3 folks can come a day or so ahead. But I haven’t gotten a date certain so if you see anything, MOnkey - I would like to know as well. My D is having “second thoughts” now and I feel like I’m falling through the looking glass!!! UGH! I do know that Cornells’ move in day is the few days before Ithaca’s so hotels (and restaurants) will be maxed out!

Also- the orientation before move in may not be on a any calendar - it just might be something you coordinate with the school because your student is meeting with an advisor only - not any big school program.

The web site has 6 possibilities: June 19th - 21st; June 24th - 26th; June 26th - 28th; July 1st - 3rd; July 8th - 10th; and July 10th - 12th.

Most of the MT kids decided to do the July 8th - 10th, which my D cannot do. She is going to try to do one of the the first two…there do not seem to be any dates right before move in, but maybe they did add that for kids who live far away. I know I had trouble getting a room for move in day (which is August 25th) a week or so ago, so if you’re confident they are doing an orientation around then, maybe you should look for a hotel for the 23rd and 24th? The nice thing is that you can always cancel the hotel with no charge.

PM me if there is anything I can do to help…or if you want our Ds to hook up via FB!

Oh, no prntosome! (We cross posted.) Why the 2nd thoughts???

If you go to Ithaca’s Res Life, then click on Fall Term, then Important Dates, it says August 25th is “Check-in for all New Students, New Transfers and Garden Apartment Residents (9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.).” All other returning students check in the 26th.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I just went on line to research hotels and panicked when I saw how many are already completely booked. So I found one that had a room available and quickly booked it with approximate dates. So now I don’t have to panic quite so much now that I know we at least have a room!!
Monkey13: my daughter has been on the Ithaca Facebook group and met lots of great kids and one she is even ready to be roommates with! I’ll PM you if that’s okay.

We live quite far also. There is no official orientation right before move in day. Admissions did say that we could opt to come a day or two early to get the schedule set up etc. We just decided to go July 10, 11 and 12 to keep the stress level at move in down a little. Try VRBO or craigslist if you can’t find a hotel for move in. There were quite a few options available last month. Don’t leave us prntosome!

Have you ever used VRBO?? Can I message you md311mt?

Haha - well if it were ME signing up I would not leave you!!! I have done so much research on the 2 schools my D has to choose between from those she got offers. I am a research hound - I love to dig and dig. She is a true creative spirit and needs to decide from her gut, not facts. We don’t compliment each other well in that regard. I’m sure she is feeling me pushing all these facts on her. Hey - I did look at VRBO. There are some great houses to rent and they are big. It could be a possibility to put a couple of families together to make it cheap! =)

^^ See - I’m still hoping! =)

Absolutely PM me momarmarino. I have used VRBO many many times over the years and have honestly not had a bad experience. Some are certainly better than others.
For the move in we rented a cottage on the lake for a week. We are really excited for the trip.
It will be nice to spend some time getting to know the town. We are also going to do most of our dorm shopping when we get there because we have to fly. Having more space will be helpful.

It hadn’t really occurred to me that we would want to hang around after dropping off our son and a few suitcases. But since it’s a six hour drive I guess we really should reserve a hotel room. Thanks for getting me to think about this early!

In terms of orientation, my son has auditioned or will be auditioning for a number of shows this summer. His acting schedule will have to determine orientation date. Monkey13, what makes you think most of the MT kids will do that particular orientation date? (Now that my son is officially MT…)

I guess they decided it on the FB group…

Prodesse if you decide on a hotel maybe think about the night before not the day of move in.
Move in is staggered but starts pretty early in the morning on Sunday. We are heading out after the move in on Sunday. There’s no way my son will want us hanging around after that.
If you are only 6 hours away it may not even be necessary if you get an early start.

I don’t want to give you all whiplash - but my D decided on Ithaca today! Now, my only concern is that in the Fall, I would like you all to wear name tags with your CC names on them! Haha! I hope we parents all get to meet, along with our lucky kids!

Woohoo prntosome!!! I sent you a PM too…great news!!
