I'm a junior finance major at Indiana State. I applied for a few internships but haven't been accepted to any thus far, so I'm looking at alternative plans for this summer.

I'm not exactly what I want to do with my major in finance so it's hard to know exactly where to look for a summer job.

I am considering working at a bank to get some experience in the financial world; it would probably only be as a teller though.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you have any other suggestions as to what I should do?

I'm also kicking around the idea of trying to find an internship for the Fall. Does anyone know when companies start looking for applicants for these openings?

Id say try to get a summer job at a bank, like you said and take summer classes to open up more opportunities for other classes outside of you're field. Like you said, you're not sure what you want to do with finance, so taking some classes outside your major may open up your eyes. And just enjoy summer!

I sounds like you really, really need a sit down with the career center at your school. Halfway through your junior year it would be helpful to understand job options and start strategizing to position yourself for jobs you'd like to have.

im in the same position as you- Jr. Finance Major. No idea what i want to do after graduation and no internships lined up this summer. Applying to like anything and everything i can right now so hopefully someone will contact me back!

I also think it might be harder for us finance majors this year because of the the obvious financial meltdown/economic situation. Keep your head up and just hope that you'll find something..that's all im doing right now. Also, im trying to get in contact with my parent's friends to see if they have something at their work if it's possible.

Hey, I’m an econ major so I’m having an even harder time. Almost every financial services internship will probably go to a finance major (most of them are looking for finance majors), accounting internships look for accounting majors, marketing/advertising/PR internships look for marketing majors, so I’m basically stuck applying for prelaw internships. Ugh.

I sent out more resumes than I can count, and got one good lead. I’m about ready to give up. Keep trying I guess, and if you fail, just go lay on a beach all summer. Read a book. Take some easy summer classes lol.

u can do research projects/papers (try to get 'em published) or any other interesting activity. internships arent the only thing. they even get a little common and usually boring to look at in an app, if you ask me.
