Help!! Rising undergrad senior looking for internship

<p>Hi guys, I'm a bit embarrassed to say but I got off to a very slow start this year for the whole internship process, and now find myself jobless moving into March. I've only been on maybe 3 interviews and ended up getting turned down by all of them. </p>

<p>I'm working as hard as I can now to find something, but I really don't even know where to start, as it seems like most companies have stopped hiring. I'm interested in accounting or finance internships (accounting major), preferably with a larger firm (e.g. Big 4, multinational commercial/investment banks, etc.) but understand that I should probably just take anything I can get right now. </p>

<p>Does anyone have any idea on what I need to do right now? I went to career services but they were surprisingly unhelpful. I'm at a top 20 school with decent experience and good grades so I'm qualified for most jobs, the issue now is my horrible timing. Thanks in advance for any help, it's really appreciated. If you need more info just let me know.</p>

<p>from what i've seen, the big 4 and the top finance/banking firms do almost all of their recruiting for summer interns in the late fall or early january, so you are probably out of luck for the more prestigious companies. you may be able to find some positions still open at boutique firms, insurance companies, smaller accounting firms, or in corporate finance but i wouldn't wait any longer. also, i find career services to be a real pain in the ass so i'd start networking with anyone in business you may know and start checking other sources for internship postings. worst case scenario, start cold calling companies and offer to work for free if you really want an internship.</p>

<p>If you are an accounting major, have you considered local firms in your hometown? Or perhaps can you network among friends from home/parents that may know of some local firms that might offer internships? It could be a start!</p>

<p>I would say any big company is out of the question b/c economy is horrible and they usually finish hiring for summer interns in the fall. Best bet is like notre dame is saying and go for local firms...if they won't pay you try unpaid internship. I think the most important thing is to get experience. And next time start earlier haha.</p>
