I'm graduating this year and can't decide if I would rather do chem research for a month or two or just kick it with my friends (road trips, camping, whatever). Obviously doing the research makes sense - I'm really interested in science, have never done research before, and would love to see what I can do in the lab - but I can't ignore the fact that even though I'm deferring a year, this is pretty much my last summer at home.

Any thoughts? What are all your plans?

Do what you like man. In my case, I don’t hang out with friends that much so I would do research but of course I’m sure you have friends. Whatever you do, make sure you have fun. Don’t regret it man. You only live once.

I plan on getting a summer job to save up for stuff for college, but also hanging out with my friends some before we leave. I think it’s important to spend at least some time with them because we might never see each other again, sooo…maybe you should do both!
