Summer program, 16 years old?

In a few months, I will be finishing my sophomore year. I'm a pretty good student and I love school, and last year I went to Summer@Brown. I'd really like to do something similar this summer, but many of these pre-college programs are incredibly expensive. My family is still recovering from Superstorm Sandy, and also many of the programs I find are science/math oriented, when I am only looking for humanities courses. I live on Long Island, so I am in close proximity to NYC, so if you could think of any internships or things to that effect, it'd be awesome. I'm really open to anything within my interests, but it has to be reasonably priced/have accessible financial aid. Also, anything involving community service would be appropriate too. Thank you so much :)

Generally the talent searches CTY-Johns Hopkins, EPGY- Stanford, CTD-Northwestern are not that expensive and offer financial aid. These are not money making operations.

You can get pretty good airfares to places like Chicago on JetBlue or Southwest. These programs offer courses and you have to qualify with an SAT or ACT (at least for EPGY or CTY).

CTD is a little different in that you can submit an academic profile in lieu of the tests, and they are pretty flexible. They have some nice courses.

You can search for other stuff on www.cogito.org

Take a look at TASP. free, but super competitive

I’m going out on a limb here, because you seem like the type that would have considered this already, but: You could try to get an internship/volunteerish thing with a local organization for the summer. Contact them asking if they need help. I know its not an internship or at a college, but colleges are really big on long-term, committed work, and it would look great as something you independently did. I volunteered at a place once that basically offered me a position, and it would have been fun. Plus, you might even get paid (though that’s unlikely).
