Is there an advantage to applying for admission to the 2013 summer program at The University of Washington? It lists 98% percent of Freshman apply for the fall semester. According to their website:

Choosing summer means you wish to begin regular enrollment in summer and continue into autumn as a degree-seeking student. Failure to enter in summer quarter cancels autumn admission and any registration. To apply for summer quarter as a non-degree student, contact Summer Quarter.

He has submitted an application for the fall quarter but he has also submitted an application for summer.

Are you taking about advantage academically or in terms of admission chances? If you’re talking about admission, I have no idea. However, academically, I’d start in fall. I don’t think there’s any real advantage to starting in the summer. Sure he might get smaller classes, but in the fall, everything is geared towards incoming freshman; and helping them find their way. Of course I don’t really have any experience so I’m just speaking out of opinion.

However, there is something called Early Fall Start (EFS) which starts about a month before fall quarter. It lets students take one class (for credit!) and get accustomed to the university before the chaos starts. The only drawback is that it is kind of expensive. I’d definitely look into that if he is itching to start earlier in the summer and have a slight head start. If I end up going to UW I’ll consider doing EFS, as it sounds like a lot of fun.
