Found the price (I don't know how I missed it before!). Anyhow, would still like feedback from those who attended. Thanks!

It was an excellent experience. My daughter loved the program and is now applying to NYU (Steinhardt, MT) for Fall 2008. The program is taught by the Steinhardt faculty and allowed the students a real opportunity to understand what the MT program is all about. She dormed on 13th Street and got to know students from all over the US and as far away as Japan. She got a real taste of NYU. Although there were group activiites nightly (well run) she was also given the freedom to explore NYC on her own. She loved it! I have a younger daughter with similar interests and would definitely have her apply for the summer program.

Just read your previous posts...if your daughter is interested in Steinhardt (which stresses vocal performance), I would have her work on her vocal technique (through professional lessons) and not worry about how many shows she has for her resume. Prior MT experience was barely brought up. The program is centered on working with the faculty on 3 songs of the students choice, through individual voice lessons, vocal coaching and song analysis class. One song will be performed by each student at a showcase. In addition, there are 4 numbers that were coreographed and performed by the students in groups of 15 or so students. Apply early. I understand it was fairly competitive to get in last year. Although the summer program is not as well known as the CAP 21 program through Tisch, it seems that more and more students are finding out about it and applying.

I attended the Steinhardt Summer Music Theatre Intensive this summer as well, and it was the best experience of my young artistic life. The professors at Steinhardt are INCREDIBLE! They really stress how to love the process of your art. Every performer was challenged to try new things with their voice and the way they communicated through song. I could not imagine learning more in 3 weeks. Along with the individual voice lessons, vocal coachings, and song analysis class, there are dance classes in Jazz, Tap, and even a miming class. We also had master classes on auditioning with a professional casting director from Telsey Casting, The profession, Vocal Physiology, and Music Theatre Voice. The vocal talent at Steinhardt is at a very high level. Definitely take some private voice lessons from a professor at a University or a good teacher you can find. Apply for the summer program it is a wonderful experience!

Question for all of you who have been accepted in past years...

how late did you send your audition materials in? I'm probably going to end up sending mine in the end of February because that's the only time I can make my tape...

Do you think they will have already made a lot of their decisions by then?
I'm getting kind of nervous that I will be applying too late.

Has anyone heard about this summer yet??

Has anyone received any acceptances into the high school summer MT program yet? I know the website said notification would be sent by May 1, but just wondering if anyone has heard anything.

I haven't heard anything yet. I'm starting to get antsy. lol. I just want to know. I was accepted at Uarts for the summer, but I want to know so I can make my final decision.

I just received my letter, and sadly it was a no thanks. It's okay though. There's something else in store for me, and I must be meant to go to Uarts this summer instead!!

i applied to the program too, but i haven't received a letter yet. i'm getting so antsy lol i'm pretty sure my audition tape is one of the last ones if not THE last one they got. do you think that they just watch them in order and send letters to accept and decline people as they go along? did anyone else hear yet?

They fill the spaces on an on-going basis as they review the tapes of qualified applicants. I believe kids have been hearing about decisions in the last few weeks. Before April, the dep't was probably more focused on who would be accepted to their undergraduate/graduate programs.

The program is excellent and D is thrilled to be starting NYU in the fall (vocal performance-MT). Good luck everyone!

thanks so much for the info! i've been like freaking out waiting to find out haha

Anyone else going to the program this summer (09)?? I just got my acceptance! I'm so SO excited!!! =)

I'm going! It's gonna be amazing.

If anyone else is going this year, just letting you know there's a facebook group!!

So are they letting the applicants know on a rolling basis?

I have the same question. Does the Steinhardt summer program admit applicants based on a rolling basis? It didn't look that way from their website.

Yep, rolling basis, I was told once they received audition materials they would make a decision as to whether or not we were qualified and then they start mailing letters after a certain date.

I just found out that i was accepted (2009)!
But i still don’t know what to expect. About how many kids are accepted in this program?
And for anyone who has done this please let me know because i have a few questions. Thanks!

My D was just admitted as well! I’d also love to hear from any experts out there.
