I know most summer college audition prep programs have already held their auditions, but I'm curious (and a friend wants to know): When auditioning for these audition prep camps, should one follow the same advice as college auditions, i.e., stay away from songs that are from musicals that are currently on Broadway or have been in the past few years?

Yes - the same guidelines are advisable!

I thought so.

Bummer–my friend’s D was recently the lead in a more current show, and she just found out that she can audition for BW’s program. Since the deadline is April 1st, they were hoping she could use a song from that show.

For the college audition, BW doesn’t tell anyone to stay away from any song. They’ve never heard it done by the person auditioning. As long as she kills it and shows passion, she should go for it!

Do they list criteria on the website for the summer program? S auditioned for CCM last year. We had no idea of this type of criteria. He did a monologue from a monologue book and a song that was not nearly appropriate for his age and he got in. I would check first, even call overtures.

I was looking for an alternative for a friend who did not get in to mPulse or TPAP and found this one. Anyone know anything about it? It is Terrance Mann, so that a plus… and looks to be non-audition?

CCM and Baldwin Wallace both are rapidly approaching their audition deadlines. CCM deadline March 28 - notified by 4/1. BW deadline 4/1. Other possible options - Berlklee School of Music and University of the Arts - I’m not sure if either requires an audition.

I would imagine that summer programs associated with colleges would be more lenient with their audition materials. Time at the summer program to tell them what NOT to do/use for college auditions!

My D used songs from Newsies and Matilda and got into MPulse and Interlochen. I wouldn’t over stress about it unless the website is very specific. Break a leg!

MTmom2015, I had been looking at that program when the daughter started high school because it seemed that it was great! Unfortunately, there had not been enough signups to hold the class. I’m glad they decided to have an additional location. I thought it a shame that there wasn’t enough interest in NC to have the class. Maybe I’ll see about this for this summer!

A friend of mine did the UArts summer program last year and he loved it. Also yes, it is a non-audition program.

Myloves, as long as it isn’t “Defying Gravity” they will surely listen to anything!
