Please keep adding to the list

I Have Brought This Thread Back Up And Stuck It On The First Page As It Is That Time Of Year Again When Families Are Looking For Summer Programs. Please Add More Programs As You Know Of Them.

Please Be Aware That This List Up Until This Point Listed 2006 Dates And So You Must Check For 2007 Dates.

Please Do Not Discuss Programs On This Thread And Use The "summer Programs Discussion" Thread For That Purpose. As Well, There Are Individual Threads On Several Of These Programs If You Do A Search.

There Are Some Programs Discussed On The Forum That Have Not Yet Been Added To This List Such As :

Stagedoor Manor
Long Lake Camp For The Arts
Circle In The Square Summer Theater Program

PLEASE ADD OTHERS THAT YOU MAY KNOW OF.

COLLEGEMOM

http://www.summeroncampus.com/main/ProgramDetail.asp?ID=807

SummerFame, NOT highly intensive 2 weeks, 4 Programs available- Tech. theater, vocal theater (group choral numbers, solo and audition practice and development, and movement), straight drama, and dance. Fun, but lower level.

I highly recommend the CAP21 summer precollege musical theater program... It's an incredible experience, especially if you are looking to up your acting skills!

and do it through CAP21 and not NYU because you have more freedom... The NYU program is like a summer camp while the CAP21 program is a summer conservatory.

msd317, I think there are people who would definitely disagree with you. Several people here have kids who attended the NYU program and had nothing but good things to say about it. Different strokes and all of that!

msd --

You are undoubtedly right that students have more freedom in the studio CAP 21 summer program than in the NYU CAP 21 program. With limited exceptions, the NYU students are not allowed to be on their own in NYC. But your description that the studio program is a "conservatory" while the NYU program is a "camp" is perhaps a bit misleading without more discussion of what you mean by the labels.

Students in both programs spend all day Monday through Friday training in studio with regular CAP 21 faculty. The primary difference is in the evening and on weekends. The studio CAP 21 students are free to do whatever they want. The NYU students are required to attend -- and attendance is included in the tuition -- a variety of musicals, operas, plays, masterclasses, and other performance related events in NYC. On weekends, they are taken to museums, bookstores and sheetmusic stores to broaden their familiarity with New York, enhance their understanding of the profession, and further their classroom study.

Summer camp? Well, there is a group trip to Coney Island.

Idyllwild Arts in Idyllwild, CA has fantastic 1-3 week intensive summer programs in all arts disciplines - music, dance, theatre, musical theatre, visual arts, filmaking, creative writing. . . as well as an excellent year-round boarding arts high school. Located in the mountains above Palm Springs. http://www.idyllwildarts.org

We have a summer program way up here in Montana. It is a six week program for 12-20 year olds. They take an intensive acting class and musical theatre class. Mostly what they do is put on a mainstage production. THis year it is Grease. The acting teacher is from Elon University. Check it out at www.grandstreet.net

Does anyone know of a summer program in PA that is not too expensive?

You don't indicate the cost range you are looking for but take a look at University of the Arts in Phila. 4 weeks/5 days per week, about $2100 as a commuter and $2600 with dorm room (in 2005). Is among the less expensive college based programs and very good.

Devsey....this thread is just for a master listing of summer theater programs. There is another thread for DISCUSSION of summer theater programs. Here is the link to that long discussion thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=24364&page=53&highlight=Summer+Programs+Discussion

I have bumped that thread up for you.

As well, like NotMamaRose suggested, to ask questions about the summer musical theater programs at CAP21 (both the one through NYU/Tisch and the one just through CAP21), a good idea would be to visit the NYU/Tisch sub forum (see links at the top of this MT Forum) and find threads relating to the summer programs there.
