Sorry you and my D will not be together again this summer - but congrats on the NHSI acceptance. It was hard to turn down - but for my D - I think CMU will fill out the 'audition' aspects of this process.

I do think your dorms are air-conditioned....don't tell my d that CMU's are not!!!

Help! My D wasn't going to be able to do a summer program, but now things have changed. Any ideas of a program where it might not be too late to apply - that's worth it? She's a rising senior:)

Contact CMU. Even though the due date has past, I recall some students didn't complete their paperwork until close to the start date and were still accepted into the program.

Perry Mansfield Performing Arts School in Steamboat Springs, CO

Deadline past but I have reason to believe their 6-week HS/College level intensive is still open. PM me if you have more specific questions. Or e-mail them at p-m@perry-mansfield.org

Not otimistic about CMU, but give it a try. Even if there are openings, it is a lot of paper work

Univ. for the Arts in Philadelphia is one that you just sign up and send a deposit; doesn't require references, transcripts, audition tapes, etc. We visited the school in April and it looks like a great location. I would bet the summer program is very solid.

Syracuse is another first/come first serve, but it requires some paper work Also, Ithaca has a program

I would recommend just calling the various places.

You can try Steinhardt, but you need an audition tape, resume, headshot and esaay. It's also pretty expensive but you can get college credit from the MT course. Besides MT they have some other interesting performance related summer courses. It's on the NYU website. Good luck.

By the way is anyone out there going to be at Steinhardt this summer? My D will be attending and it would be nice to get her in touch in advance?

Prestigious is not the right word here. Both programs are highly respected, although non music people from the east often have not heard of Interlochen. I have direct experience of course with Interlochen (2 years) and my daughter chose to attend CMU this summer.

The experience is very different. Interlochen is on 2,000 acres and you live in bunks. CMU, a city and dorms.
At interlochen, you live and breathe the arts; I assume you do this (as well as hang, time permitting, with math majors, etc) at CMU.

Interlochen can boast Josh Groban, Nora Jones and others as alum of either the summer program or the academy; CMU, I'm sure, has a full list as well of famous alum in the field.

I think the reason my daughter chose not to re-apply to Interlochen this year is the program is undergoing some changes due to financial pressures.

But it is a wonderful place and my daughter would like to split herself in two and go to both.

More important than which is more prestigious is what each individual will take away from the program in training, etc. Clearly, both offer great potential to the willling student.

Hi, MDMom...My daughter is attending this MT workshop and we also live in CT. What town do you live in and how old is your daughter? I have not heard from too many people , up to now, heading to Steinhardt. Vocaldad's son, from MI, is attending as well. Looking forward to hearing from more attendees (parents of attendees?) in the near future. Congrats!

Hello, just wondering if anyone has decided NOT to go to UM for the summer program. My D is on the waitlist and she is still hoping to go to UM. Does anyone know when the final decisions have to be made by, whether you are going to attend or not? I don't want to call UM and bug them, just thought someone here might know since some of you were accepted. Thanks for any info.

nydancemom- I have heard that a girl from Cincinnati (where I'm from) who was on the waitlist just found out she has been accepted and will be attending.

I received a letter of information from them today stating that if payments are not received in 30 days of today's date, the kids on the waiting list will automatically get the spot.

I wish your daughter all the luck.

Side note- did anyone else on the board who is attending UMich notice that we STILL don't know anything about the MT preparation? The letter specifically stating what we need to bring and prepare will be coming early June. Oh my. Another waiting period lol.

Vocaldad- what are placement auditions like?
