Summer Programs - Discussion

We did call and faxed a request to change apt./dorm location....they said Union Sq. area is full. Keep hoping though.

Thanks for the info on OCU. I didn't know that Ms Birdwells was part of the musical theater camp, so I called them today and..surprise! While they don't have her definitely confirmed, she apparently wants to do it as she loves giving master classes to the high school students! You can't ask for better training than from Chenoweth's and Kelli O'Hara's teacher!

And the person I talked to said they are still accepting applications and still looking for men (as I guess every summer musical theater program is!). Apparently they have good scholarship money available which made us even more interested in this great program.

Mainstage -

I attended last summer and had a few friends who lived in Water Street. It's not that bad of a commute. They had no complaints. I will actually be in Water Street this summer just living and working in NYC before i begin in the fall...but my roommate will be going to the CAP program...so u can commute together if u don't get the building change. Water Street is also in a really safe, nice area of town...it is a little quiet at nights, bwing in the business district...but it's not a creepy quiet. lol. Hope that makes sense. PM me if you wanna know more.

As I've said many times before, I think OCU's summer camp is great - fabulous training, lots of fun, and more reasonably priced than some. The camp last summer was a highlight of my son's life. Good luck!

TheatreGuy120 - Thanks...feel ALOT better! (Also noticed that NYU has a transit bus.) Any other Water Street 2006 Pre-College Cap 21's out there??

AHHH!! I am so bad at waiting. I am assuming my letter about the CAP21 Pre-College is going to come any day now (I auditioned on April 6) but I want to know now!
What do you guys think about calling CAP21 and asking when they are going to notify people who auditioned?

i am wondering if anyone knows about Circle in the Square summer musical theatre workshop? My D was just admitted, but I know nothing about this program in particular--perhaps someone remembers if this was already discussed on another thread? thanks for any info you can share.

Typecastme:

I would call if you dont hear anything by tomorrow(with the holiday and all). Perhaps they still need a recommendation for you - one of my D's recommendations had to be faxed over. DId they say you were missing anything when you auditioned? It can't hurt to check.

Good lukc- MikksMom

Mikksmom:
They didn't say that I was missing anything when I auditioned. When we sat down to talk after they were flipping through all of my application materials and it looked like there were two recommendations there. But I will call to check tomorrow. Thanks!

Mainstage, just saw this and thought I'd comment about Water St. My D has lived in that dorm (during the school year). It's a beautiful building but, as others have said, is FAR away from campus. While it's true that the NYU buses still run in summer, the routes are different and that route will also swing by Lafayette before proceeding to campus, so the commute will be even longer. The subways are probably the best bet. It's just a matter of learning the system and which line you want to take, and then being aware of advisories which will let you know about construction, etc. One of those lines is currently going through LOTS of work, can't remember which one it is but I"m sure you can inquire. You'll probably have to walk a certain number of blocks both to and from the subway, but it might be your best bet.

Thanks....................I think?

According to their news and updates page...letters for MPulse Musical Theatre Workshop go out today!

I wish everyone well who applied to MPulse! Best of luck. It doesn't seem that long ago when I called my brother during my lunch at school and asked if something from Michigan had come...when he said yeah, I told him to open it. I was ecstatic.

Sidenote- seems like last year's batch of MPulsers had the most UM MT acceptances ever. So happy for my friends. I'll try and remember to post a general list of schools my class will be attending in the fall when May 1 rolls around...just so parents/kids on here can get a sense of the talent that MPulse is comprised of!

I just called CAP21 to find out the status (it has been 2 weeks today). And the guy who answered the phone said that the woman (Michon Peacock maybe?) would call me back. NERVOUS!
Do you guys think she would call and tell me over the phone whether or not I got in?

I GOT INTO CAP21!
They called back and told me that I got in. They said that it was wierd because they sent the letters out last weekend. So they said that if I didn't get a letter by Monday, I should call and they will resend it.
Anyone else who got in.... feel free to PM and maybe we can talk?

I am new to this forum. My daughter auditioned via video to cap21 april 6th and unfortunately got put on a waitlist. Does anyone have any experience with being on a waitlist? I called and they said she was 1 or 2 on the list.
She also hadn't received a letter. We had emailed them because we had been concerned that she hadn't heard anything.

I'm confused. I (This is evasmom's D) applied to CAP21's summer program...the non audition one. I haven't gotten a letter yet. Should they be sending them out now?

evasmom D-
The program that I got into is audition. It is directly through CAP21 (a musical theatre conservatory) not through TISCH. I almost applied for that program before I found this one. If I recall correctly, they said you would be notified around May 1. Check their website though. I'm sure it says it somewhere. Good Luck!

calimom - I attended the program last summer and a friend of mine was originally put on the waiting list and eventually was accepted. She was told the same thing, she was one of the first on the waiting list. I hope your daughter gets in!

And congrats to everyone else who has been getting accepted to all the different summer programs.
