thanks theatreGuy. That's encouraging to know. We are anxiously waiting and hoping we hear something soon so we can plan her trip.

Anyone hear from Mpulse yet?

A friend of mine who lives in Ann Arbor got her letter yesterday and was waitlisted. According to the MPulse News & Updates site, the letters were sent out on Wednesday.

A great program to help build the singing aspect of musical theatre is the musical theatre camp at Westminster Choir College. Their main focus is on the voice and using song to help portray emotion and acting through singing and all that good stuff. You can find more info at http://www.frankabrahams.com and clicking on the link to musical theatre. Best of luck!

While my own S has not attended this summer program, two of his good friends at Walnut Hill (performing arts) did go last summer. Both felt the program was really worthwhile. In fact, one of them has now opted for Circle's professional program instead of college, and she received very good college acceptances. I know that both students felt last summer's program added to their development as actors/singers. Hope this helps.

Hey all,
New to the boards here. I decided to search around for summer program info after I applied and auditioned for the University of Michigan Summer Musical Theatre Program. I live in New York, and I just go my acceptance letter today. I loved UofMich when I visited, and can't wait for this summer. Does anyone know the size of the program this summer? 20 seems small to me, but hey, I was going in blind to the whole program. Also, did anyone else around here get in? I'd love to chat.

New to this cc. Love reading about summers, and colleges, etc. Have read it since last spring, but they just now let me sign in. (live in British Columbia). Have three daughters who have experienced Walnut Hill summer and year long, Idyllwild, CMU pre-college, Interlochen. Two of them will be doing CAP 21 this summer (pre-college and professional). 16 year old did not get into NWHSI or UMich (have a feeling that NWHSI is full on the early March 6 th day - which we made, but transcipts didn't, so they deferred us!). Is anyone ever not accepted into CAP 21??

OK...umm, ive hit a bit of a problem. in you all's opinion which program, between tisch CAP 21 summer program and CMU's MT program would be better....i cant decide...lol.
I love the fact that CMU helps you to understand the audition process, does NYU tisch do that as well?
Also, Tisch has a plus because it in the heart of NY and you get to meet directors and producers and the cast of several plays, and also tisch give free private voice lessons, whereas at CMU you have to pay..(something that my parents may not be able to do).
But that whole thing about helping to do auditions is a really good thing and something i need...cause i have never had anybody go through that with me before...
what do you think?..which one is more intensive?...can anybody help me :(...im deperate!...lol
byeee
thanks you guys
Kayla

kayla - my d attended cmu last summer. it was intensive and amazing. run like a conservatory. You are expected to really work: drama lit, improv, voice, dance, audition, directing, etc. She would return, but they don't recommend you repeat it, thus she and her sister are doing the straight CAP 21. CMU does help prepare for auditions. I understand that Tisch is fairly tight and protective. There is great theatre in pittsburgh, btw. You can always audition for straight CAP21 as an older student; CMU is only for high school - Iwould go there.

Has anyone heard of anyone not getting into CAP 21 (the straight program, not the Tisch one????) Is everyone accepted, space available?

ok....thanks susan :).
I was applied to do the high school CAP21 program and i find out if i got in on may 5th.

but as far as i know (for the straight CAP 21 program, not everybody is accepted, you have to do auditions etc....i think so, im not sure :()

Kayla - there is a difference between CAP21 and the Tisch summer Program. A big difference is length - CAP is 6 weeks and Tisch is 4. My understanding is Tisch is more structured in your off time - they do more things with students. You are also earning college credit which is not given through the straight CAP program. My D chose CAP for the length.
It is an audition program to get in (Tisch is application only).
Both programs seem good and it just depends on your goals for the summer I think!

Good luck!
Mikks MOM

Mikksmom - I believe Kayla was inquiring about Tisch' s CAP 21 vrs CMU - not straight CAP 21.
Yes, Kayla, one auditions for CAP 21. My daughters were accepted back in Feb. Still wondering if they turn down any one.
Susan

Today my D found out she was accepted into cap21... she was near the top of the waiting list. She is really excited!

I didn't specify which program... I am not sure how big the waiting list was but good luck to others that are waiting.

If anyone accepted into cap21 pre-college wants to go in knowing someone (kind of.....) feel free to PM!

We are wondering the same thing as you Kaylagurl! My daughter has been accepted to CMU and waiting to hear from NYU TISH. Can't decide which one would be better. THe 5 weeks of intense study and auditioning practice sounds awesome, but then it might advantageous to learn some the faculty at NYU TIScH (cap 21) for some kind of a connection for next year. Then there is the NYC vs. Pittsburgh thing!! I haven't really talked to anybody who has gone to NYU TISCH!! We need help too!

hey dancemother , yea i guess we are in the same boat...im not sure what to do!..lol .when you find anymore info, please let me know :)

Texmex and my S seem to be the only ones so far to be commenting about acceptance to Northwestern's NHSI Cherubs program. Edmondsg attended last year and gave a great overview of the 5-week acting program on the Northwestern thread. (I've requested he now elaborate on the MT extension.)
Are there any parents of prior summer Cherubs who might offer advice about things like attending final performances, things to take (fans?), not-to-miss experiences while there, help needed by kids during check-in/check-out, etc?
Many thanks.

bway08 went there...maybe you can contact her.

My D has gotten into BU's Summer Theater Institute and is extremely excited about it. I was wondering, since most summer theater programs do not require an audition, how do they select candidates for admission? Is it on a "first come, first serve" basis or do they screen the applicants based on their essays, resumes, recommendations, etc. Do some applicants get "rejected" from these programs? Does being accepted to a summer theater program have any correlation to being accepted to a BA/BFA program later on, not only at the particular college you go to for the summer but for other ones as well?
